Re: Circumcision...to cut or not
I have been researching this for the last day...it seems as there is no "real reason" for circumcision. Humn

Re: Circumcision...to cut or not
Posted by emilain I personally think it is important for a son to "look" like his Daddy. DH feels the same way... I've left this decision on him, if we have a boy.

The research I have been finding (not a ton so far but a bit yesterday and admittedly only one days worth) said that there really isn't any scientific studies to support that.

Re: Circumcision...to cut or not
I left this decision to DH and he decided that we would circumcise our son.

That is DH's argument. If it is so uncommon in the rest of the world to cut, wouldn't everyone be dying from infections?

I think this is true and the American Association of Pediatrics (I think that's the group) does not recommend the surgery. However, I know someone w/ 2 uncircumcised sons who have had issues w/ yeast infections, so you have to be careful about cleaning. Also, there is new evidence that circumcision may help prevent the spread of HIV.
I would probably choose not to circumcise, but since DH is Jewish I will agree to it if we have a boy. More and more parents are choosing not to circumcise, since there is no strong evidence that it is necassary.

Re: Circumcision...to cut or not
I realize that they have gotten away from the position that the procedure should be done for health reasons. I felt the same way as most of the other women on here that as a women I would defer to DH's feelings on the matter. He wants it done so if we have a boy he will be cut. The best reason I have for doing it is psychological or social. i think when they reach the age that they are curious about that kind of thing I want for him to feel like he has what his father has. As opposed to wondering why he's different and having to try to explain that. Though I'm not concerned about him getting flack from others one way or the other.
