Re: Circumsizing - not as popular?
We did, didn't think twice.
My doctor told me that he sees an alarming number of older men (on average in their 60's/70's) with problems because they were never circumsized...(chronic UTI's, infection etc..).
This was coming from our primary care physician and it's just one doctors observation.
But i do remember watching Dr. Oz and he had a whole show about it and the health risks that are increased b/c of NOT circumcizing.
I believe to each their own. Parents have to make the best decisions for their sons...but for us there was no option!

Re: Circumsizing - not as popular?
My son is not circumcized. I just couldn't bring myself to do it. EXH was opposed at first, but once he had the little guy in his arms he couldn't do it either. My friends all when I told them we didn't do it. My best friend & his wife are now expecting a little boy... he's putting up the argument against & uses me & my son in his argument.
I don't regret the decision for a moment. DS has had absolutely no issues & honestly, I don't see so much of a difference. Really. I'm glad there was no pain involved.

Re: Circumsizing - not as popular?
For us, it was like father, like son. Hence, we did. If it were up to me, we wouldn't have. However, better at birth than at 17, like someone I know! I think I was more of a wreck than DS. He came back and was happy as a clam. Diaper changes were not an issue either.

Re: Circumsizing - not as popular?
We did & never considered not doing it.
DH was very confident in the decision & I agree for hygenic reasons.
I'm very surprised by the 32% statistic posted in this thread. I've never heard of it becoming less common until now.

Re: Circumsizing - not as popular?
We did it. It was more of a hygiene reasoning then "he might get made fun of later in life" reasoning.
And just a response to a PP saying it cuts down sexual pleasure for men, DH is and he doesn't seem to be missing out in the "pleasure area".

I left the decision up to DH to make.
There was no hesitation on his part to go ahead with it. When I asked him why not to do it - his reasoning was the teasing when he gets older.
I have no experience having a penis, so I didn't argue his reasoning for going through with it.
This is how I felt 100%!!!

Not sure if its because of beliefs or because insurance doesn't pay for it.
Just FYI, DH and my insurance covers it. In fact most do.
A lot of insurance companies don't pay because it is a cosmetic procedure.
Humana, Cigna and BCBC are three firms that come to mind for not having blanket coverage of it. Also I believe Medicaid doesn't cover it.
My OB makes everyone sign paperwork stating they understand many ins co no longer cover it and that you agree to be responsible for the several hundred dollar fee.
We did, DH's decision and since I don't have one his decision was good enough for me.
We have BCBS and it was fully covered.

As someone with no penis, I left that up to the one with it. So ds is snipped. I didn't care either way. Dh made the call I went with it.

Sorry, I tried to send this out privately, but since that didn't happen and its blown up into a huge deal. I just wanted to say that I had my son circumcised. I've researched and feel that its a healthy choice for boys and here is some of the info that I have found. general health: http://www.planningfamily.com/newborn/circumcision/should-my-baby-boy-be-circumcised/ http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2422990/ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pq--5iUcgFM http://www.modern-psychiatry.com/circumcision.htm http://www.circinfo.com/parents_guide/gfp.html http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jlk_cPPqTAM http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2422990/ http://www.newvision.co.ug/D/8/13/760950

Just FYI, DH and my insurance covers it. In fact most do.
I have GHI and they cover it but, my OB billed it as out of network so I still had to pay like $300 out of pocket (they gave me paperwork while I was still pregnant stating it would be an out of network charge).
