Re: Circumsizing - not as popular?

Not. With the trend heading towards not having it done, we hope to avoid the teasing of having it done.
Plus, we could find zero medical reasons to do it, so for us, it's purely elective surgery.
I sort of agree with this.. but we didn't do it because we couldn't do it- he has a mild case of hypospadia and the pediatric urologist wanted to see if any issues developed before they did the circ.
At this point, he's 20 months old and uncir'd. If he wants to cut in the future, it will be his decision.
To circumsize him now would require general anesthesia... doing that has its own sets of risks.

Re: Circumsizing - not as popular?
yikes...this is always an interesting debate.
my son is circumcised...it wasn't something we ever debated or questioned. DH & I both knew right away the answer would be yes. I know that recent studies show that the original thought that not circumcising was unsanitary have since been debunked (this is still under debate) but I personally, and this is just my POV, look at it as i would look at cleaning any other surface...say...dishes or, anything around the home...the more nooks and crannies...the harder to clean. that fact is much less debatable.
while there is not significant evidence that one is more sanitary than the other...or that it is medically necissary...there IS some evidence that those who were circ'd had less occurence of UTI, reduced risk of STD, reduced risk of penile cancer & cervical cancer in female sex partners
My aunt spearheaded her own organization for AIDS/HIV research and treatment after she and her middle child were infected with HIV from her husband who died of AIDS...I've learned alot from my uncles death and my aunt and cousins contraction of the disease. the numbers don't lie...circumcision can reduce a mans risk of contracting HIV by 60%. while science is not always perfect and always evolving...i cannot ignore that number...not after what i saw my uncle endure in his last days.
I obviously will teach my son to be safe and so on...but if i can do ANYTHING to prevent him from catching a deadly disease...and it only makes him cry for a few minutes...i'll do it.
no flames please...this is MY OPINION and i got lucky bc my son had no issues with his circ...but i do understand there have been plenty that have gone wrong as well, so i can see why someone would worry about jeopardizing their childs manhood

We didn't do it. Didn't feel it was necessary.
I have to comment on the hygiene issue, though--just like you teach a girl to wipe front to back, you teach a boy how to properly clean the parts. If it's done properly, there shouldn't be an issue.

These are the same reason, my DH, a physician who is not circ, told me we must circ our son. He claimed here is enough evidence for health benefits.

My son is a Jew. He is circumcised. Its part of the covenant with G-d as he was given his Jewish identity. End of story.

same here, we are raising our son Jewish so we did it b/c of my religion, however we would have had it done regardless of what religion we raised him.

Re: Circumsizing - not as popular?
Our son is circumcised because we are Jewish and are raising our kids Jewish. So, he had a bris ceremony. IF we weren't Jewish we would not have circumcised him.

Re: Circumsizing - not as popular?
i would like to not do it (if/when we have a son) my husband has a different opinion even though I keep sending him links to all the issues that are developing from doing this medical procedure.

Re: Circumsizing - not as popular?
would your opinion change if your DS couldnt be circm at birth and had to wait until at least 6 months for it to be done because they use anesthesia??
i'm in that boat...1st DS was done at birth, so there was no second thoughts...but 2nd DS coudlnt be done bc he has a webbed penis (too much scrotum skin) so he has to have it done with anesthiea...
my fear is him going under anesthesia...god forbid something happen to him....but then if he does it when hes older he might resent us.....ughh...such decisions!!

What kind of issues are you finding from doing it?

I would without a doubt do it at 6 months vs. waiting until he is older.
