Citibank Credit Card Rant - Early Fraud Warning BS - UPDATED they did it AGAIN on page 2 !!!
I am so sick of Citibank. I already dumped their checking account last October.
I am just about ready to dump their credit cards as well. I got flagged again by their early fraud warning department. Apparently if you make too many "unusual charges"... they put a hold on your credit card. The problem though is... their system is WAY too sensitive.
Well long story short... i got stuck at home depot today for over a half hour because citibank blocked my card again. This happens at least once every few months (probably because I do a lot of online shopping). Yesterday they flagged me for a $45 purchase at a sewing and fabric store! Plus I have my picture on my card... so its not like someone else can use the damm card. I shouldn't be getting flagged.
I am so fed up with them. I can never close the account because its currently my oldest line of credit and I will destroy my credit score. But I want to get a new card.
I am considering the Bank Of America card because i can get my picture put on the card (I like that security). Anyone have this card?
TIA

like people look at pictures anymore or look at the signature....
by time you attempt to cancel (just bs them) you will get some nice bal xfer deal or low special rate.
I had a fleet card that changed into BOA and its just another card.
my personal choice is Amex for my spending

I have BOA, and I got flagged right before Christmas for a purchase I made over the internet from a company in England ... what a PITA because it happened to DH and he was mortified.
I guess it's a good thing that they look out for your card (especially in this day in age when you can use basically anyone's on the internet and at stores where they never look at the card anymore) but it's a pain when it happens.

You would be surprised on how useful the picture is. A lot of merchants ask for photo ID when buying stuff. I don't have to be bothered with that with having the picture on there.

Re: Citibank Credit Card Rant - Early Fraud Warning BS
I have BOA and never had a problem like that.
Last year DH's company switched from BOA to Citibank, and for some reason if you wanted direct deposit you had to change to Citibank too.
Well, we had the same problem as you. We do a lot of online Xmas shopping, and a few charges were denied for the same reason. In fact, one was for an item that was limited, and b/c they denied the charges, we couldn't get it! We were sooooooooooooooo pi$$ed. I called and screamed at them and it hasn't happened since...

See.... this is exactly what the bank tries to say and I don't buy it. They aren't looking out for MY card. They are looking out for THEIR card and THEIR interests... while inconvieniencing the customer.
If the card get stolen... the customer isn't responsible for fraudulant charges anyways.
Citibank just sets their fraud early warning so strict... I literally set it off at least once every few months.

Question:
Do you look at your BoA account online? If you look at the credit card online... does it give you a list of all your "authorizations" and "holds"... or does it just list actual charges?
I would love a card that would display all my holds and authorizations as well as actual charges.

its more like im surprised when they do ask for verfication. the system is lousey and credit card companies and merchants needs to fix it...else there shouldn't be a huge big deal about stolen credit cards and fraud (espically in person)

They will ask for ID in places like electronic stores... game stop... stuff like that where fraud is more likely to happen.
I got flagged yesterday at a knitting and sewing store! Thats like the opposite end of the spectrum... and it still baffles me.
When I called Citibank to bytch them out for the $*&&$th time... i actually told the rep "If I was to steal a citibank card... do you think I am going to run up the bill at a sewing store?"

Yes, I believe it lists as pending charges, and it deducts it from your balance.

Re: Citibank Credit Card Rant - Early Fraud Warning BS
I have been ranting lately about Chase. I reported a card stolen because I lost my bill and wanted to play it safe. So they send me a new card, I use the new card for about 2 weeks and then it gets declined. I call when I get home and find out that Chase has cancelled the account. When I ask why, the rep has to put me on hold and then comes back and says something about there being something on my credit report, but if I want to reopen it, she can do that for me. I was so freaked out by the idea of something in my report that I didn't even question that - so you closed it because you questioned my credit, but now, 2 days later, you can re-open it? What the F? I flipped out, got a report from one of the online sites, and there is nothing irregular or strange on there, no recent requests, nothing. They screwed up and scared the crap out of me. No way am I re-opening any account with them! Luckily, this is one of my newest cards, so I am thinking it shouldn't really affect my credit score.
DH's card got flagged once because he bought electronics and then went to get gas - I guess this is a typical "thief charge" so they froze it on him until he called and confirmed the charges.

Ooooooo.... now i am really tempted to switch. I would love to have this feature.
I know with citibank i get my balance... and then i have available credit and that number is always off cause i usually have a ton of pending charges. But if I can get the charges listed... that would be very nice.

DH got stuck at Lowes one day with a girl at the register who was STUCK ON STUPID! Long story short, after 4 DIFFERENT transactions on our CC, because of HER screw ups, Citibank froze our account!!!
TOTAL PITA, but we felt better getting a whole new CC# after that.

Yeah, that is annoying...I have a citibank acct and hate it. Its much easier to have your balance showing pending charges. So, my DH uses the citibank acct, and I use the BOA, which I've had since they were Nat West!

Re: Citibank Credit Card Rant - Early Fraud Warning BS
when I banked with Fleet they used to show pending charges, I have to check if they do it with the BOA CC. For the longest timw that was one of the best features compared to all the other "online" banks around.

SO the BOA card definitely lists all your pending charges? Does it list the actual merchant of the pending charge... or does it say something general like "retail merchant" or "electronics store".

I have BOA and I love it. They show the store that you bought the item from in the Pending Charges area. It'll show up immediately as well. I've been with them for a couple of years now and I haven't had any trouble at all. Make the switch, I had the same problem with Citibank when I lived in NY.

Yes it does. It lists merchant too. If you asked this yesterday I could show you, but everything has went through. I have a pending credit from BOA, and it shows like this...
Pending Transactions [Learn more] [Hide] Transaction Debit(-) Credit(+) PENDING CREDIT ON 01/31 $12.00

Thanks... and just to clarify... this is a credit card we are talking about right? Not a debit/bank card that has the visa or mastercard logo?

Re: Citibank Credit Card Rant - Early Fraud Warning BS
It's ironic that Home Depot has been the problem- I have a co-worker who has a Citibank card. While she and her husband were traveling, someone racked up $25k in fraudulent charges at 3 different Home Depot. Meanwhile, the cards (hers and husbands) had their pics AND weren't stolen, just the numbers. It was a huge PITA for them.
Kinda funny how Home Depot is so diligent a few months later. Sorry for all the hassles.

I hate Citibank!! I cancelled my card after they continued to call me 3 times a day (and no I am not exaggerating) pushing their special deals.
