City Working Folk: Who has had the longest walk so far ???

I am sure I didn't have the longest walk... but I did have to walk from Penn Station to the 59th street bridge this morning.

Decent walk... took me about 30-40 minutes.

Same here. I've had no problems and took my usual walk from the 48th & park exit to my office only a few blocks away. I really feel for all of those people who've had awful commutes.

I had to walk from the Path on 23rd and Sixth to 22nd and Sixth- perfect commute as always- although more crowded than normal.

Re: City Working Folk: Who has had the longest walk so far ???

I had a walk to the train, and a walk to work from the ferry. Not so bad, an extra hour. My OT got cancelled while the strike is on, so I will make it home at my ususal time.

My big concern is my unlimited weekly express bus card. At this point I am losing so much by riding the ferry with it.

Janice, from NY1.com

Straphangers: Hold On To Your MetroCards
December 21, 2005

Straphangers are advised to hold on to their MetroCards, even though they can’t use them during the strike.

The MTA says the MetroCard's value will return when the subways and buses start running again.

Many straphangers will be relieved to know that the unlimited ride MetroCards are essentially on hiatus: once the strike ends, the clock will restart on the cards, thereby extending the expiration date on the date.

The same goes for the Holiday Discount Card and Express Bus Plus cards. Of course, pay-per-ride cards will not be affected.

Additionally, monthly Mail-and-Ride customers will receive a credit for the unused days.

Re: City Working Folk: Who has had the longest walk so far ???

I walked from Penn to B'way & 20th, then after work met DH at 5th and 30th, we walked to Penn saw the lines and said no way.

Walked to 43rd and 9th for dinner with a preggo friend who also wanted nothing to do with those lines.

Took trains home around 8:30 - no lines, trains half empty.

My advice stick around finish the x-mas shopping or get a couple extra gifts for yourself, or have dinner...

After 7:00 or so it really eases up.

I have coworkers that walked from Parkslope to B'way & 20th and another that walked down from 96th way over on the west side.

One of DH's coworkers walked from Park Slope, Brooklyn to 31st between 9th and 10th!

DH is lucky. He always walks from the subway at Penn, so now he's just taking the LIRR instead. He had to wait on line for an hour and a half this morning to get on the train at forest hills!

Leo brought his rollerblades and went to 23rd, now he is heading to 8th. He works there, but gets off at 2:30 tonight, so then rollerblading back down to the ferry.
