Curious to know more about Civil Service Jobs. I don't know much, and just want to understand the types of opportunities available, benefits etc. for those that have these positions.

I was glancing over suffolk counties site:

Am I right in understanding that you can only apply and take the test for the jobs that have current exams scheduled? Or is there a general test available? Can you also apply for jobs with the state? Or even Nassau if you're not a resident?

Sorry, I probably sound so uninformed...but I would appreciate any insight or even a private FM about your knowledge, experience, etc...I know it's not an easy process and very difficult to "get in" so I just want to know how I should go about it.

For me, I have been working for a Fortune 500 company since college. I am just done with corporate work. I need a change.
