Clogged tear duct...

How long will this last? It's draining a ton and gets crusty when she wakes up. Chat Icon

I should add that we have been massaging it too.

Re: Clogged tear duct...

Chat Icon #2 had this for about 3-4 months. One day it just went away. My pediatrician said it wasn't a concern unless it persisted to 9 months. I used to put pressure on the eye area with a warm, wet washcloth.

Re: Clogged tear duct...

My daughter had this really bad for two and a half months. She would look like a pirate after she was crying or when she woke up from a nap. It was sooo sad. My doctor told me to massage(less massage but more pressure) it and put saline in her nose. I was not doing the saline half as much as I was massaging it. He said the ducts are connected and the saline is what really does the best job. SO after that appointment I started taking saline gel(Ayr, you buy it at CVS) and using a Qtip to put it up her nose-not just in the nose but up the nostril. I noticed it getting better within days. One morning she woke up and it was completely gone. I would HIGHLY reccommend using the saline gel- it is more comfortable for the babies cause there is no choking.

Re: Clogged tear duct...

the day after we switched my son to nutramigen, his eye cleared up. The dr said it was a coincidence though. I used to massage it all the time, and put warm compresses on it. I used to hate it. I felt so bad for him! Hope it clears up soon!!!

Re: Clogged tear duct...

My baby is 16 days old and has this right now...but hers was also infected so the dr. gave us erithromycin to put in her eye. After 3 days on the erithromycin, it has already gotten alot better. The dr. said they often reoccur and it is only a concern if it lasts more than 6 months....Ive also been massaging her tear duct. I think it should be cleared up completely within the next few days because it is really getting alot better.

Re: Clogged tear duct...

Ds's lasted on and off until he was almost 2 and we had surgery scheduled with an eye specialist. I guess the thought of surgery cured himChat Icon
