Clogged Tear Duct?

DD has one eye that is always full of eye goo. Doctor said it is a clogged tear duct and gave us drops and told us to massage the tear duct to help clear it up. Been doing that for two weeks and it hasn't cleared up. Anyone's child have this? If so when did it go away and what did you do for it?

Re: Clogged Tear Duct?

Emily had this a LOT when she was a baby. It would come and go basically on it's own. My dr said that the massage really doesn't do much so we just did warm cloths on it inthe AM when she woke up and also during the day when it got really bad.

It was pretty much nonexistant after 2 months but came back at around 6 months. The dr said they wouldn't be concerned until about after 9 mos.

Ryan had it too. MD said they wouldnt do anything until 1 year. One day around 8 months I noticed it stopped. Just like that. Its annoying but dont worry about it. I used cotton balls to clean it all the time.

Ryan had this. The drops the Dr gave cleared it right up, but at first I was just doing the massage. It would go away and then come back a few days later, but once I used the drops it went away permanantly.

I have had two kids at my day care who had this. One still has problems and she is now 11 months old. The other one it went away on it's own by the time he was six months. Sometimes if it doesn't go away on it's own it may require surgery. Keep up with the massaging. I think that is what helps the most.Chat Icon

Re: Clogged Tear Duct?

Dd had it- it was so gross. It cleared up in one eye at 5 months, and the other at about 6 months.

My DD has this also for the past 2 weeks (she's 4 1/2 weeks old) The Dr said warm water on a cotton ball and massage. I hope it goes away soon.

My cousin had this and my aunt was given drops and told to massage and put warm washcloths on it. When he turned 8 months, the doctor said that they had to fix it. My aunt said that the doctor pushed really hard on the babies eye (she said it looked like his eyeball popped out---sorry to be so graphic) But he didnt cry, so I guess it looked more gross then being painful. Anyway, he still has some gook, so I dont think it workedChat Icon
