Clogged tear ducts in older infants
DS is 8.5 months old and still had a clogged tear duct in one eye. We just got a referral for the eye doctor. If it doesn't clear up by a year, he'll have to get a procedure done to open it up.
BTDT moms, if DC went to the eye doctor for a clogged duct, what happened at the appointment? Did the clogged duct clear up on its own? If so, did you do anything to help clear it up? If not, what was the procedure like?

Re: Clogged tear ducts in older infants
Kaydyn had surgery in April (she was 14 1/2 months) because her one tear duct would not open and it kept getting infected.
She went in the hospital in the morning. They gave her an oral sedative. I carried her into the OR and stayed until they put her out. Once she was out they put in the IV and did the procedure. In total it took about 15 mins for the procedure. We then got to go see her in recovery and she was not a happy camper. She screamed and cried and threw a fit for about an hour. Once we got in the car to go home she was fine and was her normal active self the rest of the day.
We kept trying to manually open it by massaging it but it didn't work. Both were clogged at one point and one opened but not the other.
ETA: At the eye appt they did a regular eye exam. They checked her vision they dilated her eyes. They did confirm that it was clogged but didn't do anything to try to open it there.
