Closing is approaching- how should we be prepared for moving?

Anything we have to think about besides packing (duh Chat Icon), getting new accounts with cable, electric....

Any other ways to prepare?

Thanks!

Have you contacted a moving company

Have your mail forwarded to your new address (we actually just did this)

Prepare to close out electric, gas etc from you old place

In NY I wasn't able to sign over to a new electric and water account until the sellers had closed out theirs first

OMG it seems like you did this soooo quick! Congrats Tara! FM me if you need anything

Mail forwarding, which you can do now and post-date it. You will get a bunch of coupons for Home Depot etc. that way also. Chat Icon

Find out where the offices are to change your water, and to apply for your Star rebate.

Get your garbage schedule and find out where pick up recycle bins if the previous owners aren't leaving them for you.

Consider if you have more bathrooms now than you did before and prepare - plungers, scrubbers, shower curtains, toilet paper, towels, hand soap, tissues.

Light bulbs (please buy compact fluorescents Chat Icon)

Get paint chips to decide room colors. Rollers, trays, brushes, roller poles. Ladder if necessary, spackle, sandpaper, tarps for the floor, painters tape.

New door locks for all outside doors.

Consider the Home Depot credit card for your first purchase - it's 0% for one year with no annual fee and will get you 10% off your first purchase. Add that to the 10% discount coupon you'll get in the mail for changing your address and it could be big bucks. We saved over $100. that way.

Tools - do you have a power drill? That saved a lot of time for us, especially for putting the new doorknob and deadbolt in. We had a full screwdriver set already and used that often too.

Ok that's all I can think of right now. I upgraded my organizer and kept my To Do list in check. It was a big help! Chat Icon

pack slowly (if time permits) to avoid driving yourself nuts. I did one or two boxes per day so it wasn't so bad. if u need to buy boxes, check out some of the websites - much cheaper than staples (i learned this the hard way.) put a folder together with every piece of house-related paperwork and make sure you bring everything to closing/
