Clothing Advice
I was just hoping some of you mommies could she some light on baby clothing for me. When I give gifts I want to be giving the best possible size. So how does the whole baby sizing thing work? I know it goes newborn, 0-3, 3-6, 6-9. What is the difference between newborn & 0-3? What is the best size to give as a gift? What is not worth buying at all b/c you hardly use it. TIA!! I am so clueless, and on top of gift giving we are TTC.

Re: Clothing Advice
I usually stay away from giving NB or 0-3 month sizes. They grow out of them incredibly fast and everyone I know usually gets way too much in 0-3 month size.
If I was giving for a baby born now, I would give a Fall outfit in 3-6month size. Something versatile that they can wear the whole winter if it fits. I might throw in some Summer outfits in 12mo size for next year too.
Or I'd get sleepers and Summer PJs for next year. I find that you can never have too many PJs!

Re: Clothing Advice
Id skip over the newborn and 0-3
ds barely used any newborn and was already wearing the 0-3- switched to the 3-6 months by about 2 months old, and now at 4 months he's over 16lbs getting ready for the 6-9 months.
sleepers are pretty year round thing that you dont have to worry about right size right season...

Re: Clothing Advice
to be honest, i would have preferred that some people gave me larger sizes... i got SO MUCH newborn (which he lasted 3 days in) and 0-3 months (he lasted 3 weeks) and by the time he was 2 months old i was out of clothes as he was in 6-9 months and i had NOTHING.........
one thing you should know when shopping is to avoid gerber stuff.... they run EXTREMELY small... i was looking at their pjs and if i bought my lovely son based on weight i would have to buy him a 5t.... he is 11months old.... but he was out of gerber 24 month stuff before he even entered carters 24 months

Re: Clothing Advice
I would definitely stay in the 3-6 range.

Re: Clothing Advice
I just bought someone a gift in a 9 month size (which is really 6-9 months.) The baby was born on the average to large side and this items looks to me like it runs small. For my baby, we got many gifts that he could not wear for a while. He needed preemie, then newborn and then the 0-3 month size. I would not have minded more gifts in the smaller sizes.

Re: Clothing Advice
My advice to everyone giving gifts is to always give the gift receipt!!!!!!!!!
You never know what size the baby will be when they are born and what size they will be when the appropriate weather season hits. DS was born extremely large and came home from the hospital in size 6-9 month clothes. Only a few clothes we had from my shower actually fit him. And exchanging for bigger sizes was a nightmare without receipts. And now many stores have even stricter policies.

Re: Clothing Advice
I agree, give the reciept!
In my case, DS was little when he was born and I actually had to go out and buy Newborn sizes b/c he didn't fit into 0-3. He stayed in 0-3 awhile and then started growing FAST. He practically skipped 3-6 and now at 11 months he is in 24 month clothes So I would say buy big.
