Re: Coconut oil
Yes. i take some and rub it on heels of my feet and the rest is used for my hands. Winter is killing my skin.
As you rub it gets soft and oily.
I have yet to use it for other things like cooking, which you can.

Re: Coconut oil
I just started using it on my hair (I let it sit for an hour or so prior to going in the shower) and I've used it on my skin.
I was going to start experimenting with it on my face, but I've read mixed reviews in regards to breakouts, so I'm sticking with my pharma products.
the oil breaks down at 74 degrees (i believe), so all you have to do is rub it a little bit and it turns to an oil.

Coconut oil
I use it to cook with, it's hard like you said but since I keep mine in the closet next to my oven it tends to stay on the softer side. Maybe keep it in your kitchen or in a warmer place in your house so it tends to stay softer?

Re: Coconut oil
I have EXTREMELY dry skin and I use it to take off my makeup, then again as a moisturizer at night for face and body. I also use it in my hair before washing. I bought organic coconut oil from Stop n Shop. I keep it in my medicine cabinet.

Re: Coconut oil
I keep a tub in the shower and let the hot water hit it (cover closed) and use it to shave my legs and use it all over as a moisturizer. I have used it on my face at night and it didn't cause break outs.

Re: Coconut oil
I drench my hair in it for as long as i can at night before washing it out. I have seen recipes online where people use a blender to get it whipped and than use it for body lotion
I have dry skin but it my my face clog badly. i am trying organic raw shea butter (with argon oil) for my face at night now-so far so good

Re: Coconut oil
this is the best thing that i have ever discovered. My husband bought the big jar from costco and i use it for everything. I have very dry skin and i have psoriasis and it is amazing. I use it as a body cream, face cream (Coconut oil contains lauric acid, capric acid and caprylic acid, which have antimicrobial, antioxidant, antifungal, and antibacterial properties), i use it in my hair and to make my stir fry dinner (LOL)
I took some out of the jar and put it in a tubberware which i keep in the bathroom. It is like a jelly like subtance but i find that it melts alomst the secondi touch it.
The only thing that I do not like about it is that it smells like milk....(atleast to me)

Re: Coconut oil
I LOVE coconut oil! We use it for everything lately
-hair/scalp -make up remover -face moisturizer -cuticle oil -hands/feet overnight -diaper rashes or any skin irritation -oil pulling -supplement in shakes and cooking
Ets: I personally love the smell, especially when used as face moisturizer

Re: Coconut oil
Isn't coconut oil like REALLY high in cholesterol and fat? Or am I thinking of something else? I can't imagine it would be good to cook with if that is the case, no?

Re: Coconut oil
I haven't tried coconut oil yet, but recently began buying the coconut oil body butter at Trader Joe's and I'm hooked.
It's also so much cheaper than the Body Shop.
Only con is it doesn't smell as good.

Re: Coconut oil
If you find an Indian or south Asian market you will find it for cheaper!! Indians will use it for hair or cooking. It is known to take the heat out of your body so it will actually keep you cooler if you put it in uour hair!! It is used in warm climates so usually is not hard. I agree with soaking bottle in hot water to loosen it up. Yes it is high in cholesterol and fat!!

It is high in fat like other oils. It does not, however, contain cholesterol. Cholesterol comes from animal products, not plants. I use it in cooking and baking. I actually have a friend who eats it by the spoonful
I had no idea it had so many other uses. If you use it on your hair/face do you feel greasy afterwards?

Re: Coconut oil
When I was nursing my lacaion consultant recommended it for my nipples. It worked wonders! Used the organic extra virgin, no need to wipe off for baby.
After using it for that I looked into other uses, as this post reflects there are so many!
I have a friend who uses it in their coffee, believes it will help prevent alzheimers.

Re: Coconut oil
Love this stuff!
I cook/fry with it. I put a little in my oatmeal and smoothies too. I use it as a moisturizer when I shave, as a hand lotion, and on both my DDs as a baby lotion/diaper cream. (It's awesome on diaper rash and baby acne).

Coconut oil
I had my hair straightened and it fried my hair very very bad. It was almost to the point of needing it all cut off into a super short cut. I put warmed coconut oil on every night after my shower and just let it sit there all night. I wrapped my head so my pillow wasn't dirty. I would wash it off in the morning. I did that every night for a week and now I do it every 2 weeks or so. My hair has never been healthier! I keep mine in an old dish soap container and heat it up in the microwave to get it soft. I then drizzle a bunch on my hair. It's an oil slick after, but I don't care. I also use it as diaper cream, body lotion, and a little tiny bit for my daughters curly hair leaves it soft and curly.
