cold lunch ideas?

My husband is going to be working 10 hr days outside...I want to pack him a good substantial lunch, as well as things that will get him through the day....any suggestions? Thanks!

Different type of salads that can be eaten cold...pasta salads with mix of veggies, chicken caesar salad, steak salad, potato salad.

Sandwiches...cold cuts, chicken cutlet with fresh mozzarella on hero roll, chicken salad, egg salad.

I get nervous about any kind of item with mayo or dairy in it sitting out too long.

You could always get him a small cooler with one of those freezer pack things.

ETA: You could make rice and beans too. That doesn't have to be re-heated.

Fruit/bananas. Granola bars, dry cereal, crackers cookies & other various baked goods.

Hummus on pita bread with veggies? I don't know how "manly" that is though. My DH would shoot me if I sent that in his lunch!

healthy or doesn't matter??

snacks -

granola bars (or power bars, etc)

trail mix (raw cashews, almonds, a few dark chocolate chips, pumpkin seeds, peanuts, etc)

kashi cookies

apple, orange or some kind of fruit

baked potato chips

hard boiled egg

pretzels


for lunch -

(either on bagel or bread)

PB & banana

turkey & swiss

sopressata or prosciutto & mozzarella or provolone

tuna salad with olive oil instead of mayo

grilled chicken, cheddar, avocado

no-mayo pasta salad with grilled chicken

I pack lunch for DH on an almost daily basis. He takes a small cooler with him, puts two ice packs in it to keep the food cold since he leaves the cooler in his car.
Today he has homemade potato salad, pasta salad with veggies, chicken cutlet, cut up watermelon and a banana.
I usually pack a protein and some sort of starch/veggie combination, fruit is a must. A small salad of sliced tomatoes, onions and mozzarella or sliced veggies and dressing on the side. He doesn't like greens.

He likes when I make wraps. His favorite is chicken with horseradish cheddar, red peppers and diced olives.
Leftover meatloaf brushed with bbq sauce and provolone cheese.

I'm lucky that DH likes leftovers.
