Cold Meds that you find work best for your DC???
Alex has a doozie of a cold. She's SO congested, her fever is gone though. Tylenol Plus Cough & Cold seems to be "ok", but not great...any other suggestions? TIA.

My son seems to do really well on Dimetap, plus it tastes really good so I dont have to struggle with him to take it

I used the decongestant nose drops, but you can't use them at the same time as other products that have a decongestant in them. I used Dimetapp, or Tylenol Cold. I really don't think they really helped though. In fact, I just heard that no cold remedies have been proven to work in infants.

Re: Cold Meds that you find work best for your DC???
I would call your ped and get his opinion....DS had a cold recently and I called to ask how much to give and he said that right now he is no longer recommending any cold meds for children under 6. He said the FDA is thinking about banning these cold meds b/c recently there have been children rushed to the hospital after taking them b/c of something in it. He did tell me there is one thing out there to give for a cough but I can't remember what he said. Just thought I'd pass along the info. Hope DD feels better soon!

My ped warned me of the same. He said that under no conditions are we to give Alex cough or cold medicine, for the same reasons. If you google "cough medicine for baby under 2" you'll find a bunch of articles referencing the FDA's caution. I know for myself, I never take cold or cough medicine because I have a very strong reaction - my heart starts pounding, and on more than one occasion, I've passed out.

Re: Cold Meds that you find work best for your DC???
we stay away from cold medicines as per my ped. suggestion. it's hard to watch her cough & sniffle, but the doctor said that some of the decongestants can cause secondary congestion later.
we do use saline spray.

Re: Cold Meds that you find work best for your DC???
Depends on age. We started around 15-16 months using Dimetapp as well as per ped recommendation. Before that he never had a cold where he needed it badly or if he did we used Pedicare infant drops.
Depending on symptoms the Cold and Cough or the Cough one (Dimetapp). I only really give it at night because it knocks him out. In the day, I try to let it run it's course, but if it is really bad Pedicare Cold but it isn't the best. Tylenol Cold and Cough doesn't do much for him either. When it is just a horrible cough without the runny stuff, sometimes Robuttison helps as well.

I use the same one. I think it is supposed to decongest and then dry them up.

my ped doesn't recommend any cold meds either. he says they can cause a rebound effect. i found a humidifier and the pediacare plug in vaporizer to be helpful.

Our ped doesn't rec cold meds either for babies under 5.
We use baby vapor rub and Benadryl for congestion along with a cool mist humidifier.
