Re: Come on - does Cailen REALLY sound like a girl's name?

Honestly, IMO yes I do think it sounds like a girl's name because I think it sounds like Kaitlin....
I also have never heard of this name before, but when I saw it written out, I wasn't sure --it sounds like it is one of the unisex names people are using lately. Like Jaiden/Jayden. I have seen that used for a boy and a girl.
However, if he was dressed in BLUE and you said son, I am not sure why someone would say that.
ETA: it is a nice name nonetheless
ITA. But I wouldn't proceed to ask you if you had a girl...I would just ask how to pronounce his name. He's a cutie pie and like you said, I hope he has that confidence and be able to defend himself....

I have a niece Kailyn so I'm used to it as a girl's name. She also has a friend with the same name (girl.) It sounds like you are pronouncing it differently, though.

Re: Come on - does Cailen REALLY sound like a girl's name?
thanks ladies!!!
I agree its a unisex name - I guess its b/c I dress him like such a boy, and people still get confused.... Its one thing to see the name in print - which I totally agree - I wouldnt know boy or girl, and maybe hearing the name as well - but if you see a baby dressed all in blue - I mean - everything in blue with things like zip up blue sweatshirts... blue striped shirts, etc - things that are so boyish - then you put it all together... Like Devin - once you look at her - its obvious she's a girl....

Re: Come on - does Cailen REALLY sound like a girl's name?
well... i guess because i work at a school and theres so many girls with similar names ( kaitlyn, kayla, cailee.....) that my first impression is that its a girls name. i think its the "len" on the end of it that makes it sound feminine. i think it sounds more masculine with the "d"- caiden.... .BUT, the way you are spelingl it is masculine, and if you dress him in boyish clothes... then they're shouldn't be any question LOL

I love the name but think of it as a girl's name....but many nowadays can be for both genders.
I bought my dd a baby girl doll last year that was named "Calin".

See, now, I find Cailen to be a masculine name! Who cares, anyway? I would chock it up to people being stupid. As usual.

Re: Come on - does Cailen REALLY sound like a girl's name?
People are just stupid I think.. Please, my son's name is JACOB and a few times lately in the food stores with his blue sweatshirt and jeans on and new balance sneakers, a woman says to him: "Hi, whats your name?"
I answer: "Say hi Jacob"
She says: "SHE'S BEAUTIFUL"!
I didnt even correct her, I was like, "Thanks".. It's happened quite frequently.
I think Cailen sounds like a girls name but when you spell it the way you spell it, I totally think boy. It's def a unisex name. Nothing wrong with that. My DH"s name is Jamie and I always get telemarketers asking for "HER".. And my BIL's name is Jordan. Its a unisex world!!

Re: Come on - does Cailen REALLY sound like a girl's name?
It sounds unisex to me... but then again, Shawn Colvin is a female....
We dress DD in pink, with a pink or purple paci, with a pink blanket, but because she is in a blue car carrier, people assumes she is a boy... Uhhh... forget the expensive safety gear (plus, there aren't that many pink car seats anyway...), try looking at the clothes we put on her!
I've known several males and females named "Jamie", "Shawn" (see above), "Kerry", "Stacy", "Kelly", etc, etc.... even "Jo" and "Bobby" are co-ed, so I wouldn't stress about his name being confused.
