Commack edited to add more questions
Ok here we go again. 2 years ago we were looking causally but looked in smithtown, east north port, Kings park and commack. We really put commack as our top choice. We didn't make a move then. We are opening up this topic again and drove to commack today. Love certain parts even more than 2 years ago. So my question is: please give me some tips, advice, ins and outs or anyt good info about commack!
Pretty much looking in commack sd
I'd love to hear from people that live there as well as those who chose not to.
TIA!
ETA: Criteria/ characteristics we would like to see:
We are looking for: (in priority order) 1. GREAT school district. Multiple enrichment opportunities/ highly ranked/ sports. Overall great education. 2. Safe community. 3. Family community lots of kids/ families 4. Area needs to have curb appeal on a whole. We don't want to be in an area with rundown unkept houses widespread. 5. Close to parkways 6. Nice parks, recreation (doesn't necessary need to be in the exact town but relatively close by)
Also please describe the different pros and cons to the different neighborhoods within commack m
TIA again!!!

Re: Commack
I live in smithtown but on the commack border. Commack is a great town, Half is town of smithtown the other part is town of huntington. The schools are great of course.
I have a bunch of friends in commack many with kids in the schools and they are all very happy with their neighborhoods, etc.
I think all the towns on your list are great and you can't go wrong. But they are the same towns we looked at when we first bought our house and the same towns we are considering now as we are thinking of moving.

Re: Commack
I moved to Commack last October and we love it. I can't say about the schools as we do not have children yet, but we chose the area because the schools are rated so highly. I love Kings Park and Northport as well, but I feel that Commack was a better choice for us because we commute to the city and we are right near the sunken meadow which is quick access to all the major highways. Also all my aunts live in Kings Park and they always have to travel to Commack for all their shopping because everything is over here. Good luck! FM if you have any questions.

Commack
I know you have been looking and exploring for awhile right?
What are your must haves for an area?
You can't go wrong with commack, IMO. I wouldn't recommend it if you want a village-ish area, though.

Commack
We moved to Commack last summer and couldn't be happier. The school's are very good. I think Commack is a very family friendly place. We live close to the parkways which was a must for my husbands commute. I'm still exploring and finding my way. Any of the areas you mentioned I would recommend also. Good luck :)

Commack
We closed on our house in Commack last March (DH lived there for a long time before we even met). We had to purchase in Commack SD because that is where his son goes to school. There are houses in parts of Dix Hills, E. Northport & Smithtown that are also in Commack SD. We are in the Town of Smithtown part of Commack, but part is also in the Town of Huntington. (I would have preferred in be inthe tonw of Huntington because that is where I grew up and it was more familiar, but the services where we are have been great - our street was plowed 2 times within a few hours after the huge snow storm this past winter and our street was just re-paved, they have good recreational programs for kids, etc) The SD is great - very good sports programs, music programs etc. The only thing I really miss is a village/downtown area (and traffic on Jericho/Commack Rd drives me crazy! - But that would be pretty much anywhere). Anyone that I have met that has lived there for a long time is very "passionate" about Commack and very loyal to the town.

I don't know much about the different sections of Commack, but I would say that all of Commack meets your criteria. All of Commack meets #'s 1-4 on your list. Some areas have newer, larger/more expensive houses; some older, smaller/ somewhat less expensive, and some older, larger houses; but overall, all areas are well kept and well maintained (of course there are houses here and there that appear to be somewhat run-down, but not entire "areas.") Obviously there are some areas/houses that are closer to the LIE, Northern State and Sagtikos, but in general most areas are pretty close to at least one of this main highways; and as far as parks etc, both The Town of Huntington and Town of Smithtown have nice parks and good recreation programs. There's really no part of Commack that you could go wrong with.

Re: Commack edited to add more questions
We bought a house in Commack 5 1/2 years go and I grew up 5 minutes away in Hauppauge. I agree with PP, Commack definitely meets all of your criteria. The schools are excellent. I was a contract occupational therapist in the district for a year prior to purchasing our house so I got to see the district 1st hand and was able to compare it to other districts that I worked in. It's a really easy place to live. Lots of shopping, close to the highways, LIE, parkways, easy to get around and avoid any traffic. There aren't any undesirable areas and all of the surrounding towns are really nice too. Huntington, northport and smithtown are really close by and have a "Main St" to walk around, shop and explore. There are tons of restaurants, parks and things to do with kids... Everyone seems to take great pride in maintaining their property, neighbors are friendly, very family oriented. There are lots of great Drs. And good hospitals. I really don't have any bad to say about it other than I wish Commack had an awesome Bakery. It's the one thing I feel is lacking.

Re: Commack edited to add more questions
Torts Fina makes great cakes, but I wish we had a place for cannolis, pastries, breads, muffins, Danishes etc.... It seems like the bagel stores have replaced bakeries and delis.

Torta Fina is OK, but I think its overrated. The cakes are good, (and beautiful) but very expensive, as is everything there. A nice "regular" bakery would be great!

Yes, there are a lot of really good restaurants (just no delis or bakeries ). There are also good restaurants nearby in Smithtown, Northport, etc. We go to Andreas 25 (Italian) all the time, there are a few other good Italian places, a couple of really good Greek restaurants; Cafe Havana for Cuban food; and a bunch of other ones that I cannot think of off thetop of my head, plus a few of the usual chain places (Applebees, Outback, Ruby Tuesdays, Moes, 5 Guys etc).
ETA: Perfecto Mundo (Latin) and Nisen Sushi are 2 other great places.
As for The Bakery - just not a huge fan of that one either (But I'm kind of a bakery snob - I grew up with very close family friends who owned a bakery, so I guess I got spoiled).

Miller's Ale house is going to Commack, as is Longhorn Steakhouse. Anthony's Coal Fired pizza just opened up there a few mths ago. Bagel Chalet is awesome. The Spare Rib is pretty good.
