Commute from LI to Bronx?
I'm considering taking an internship in Bronx, but I'd have to commute from Amityville. I'd like to leave some time between 7:30AM and 8AM. I'm told it's supposed to take around 45 minutes, but I'm not sure how bad traffic is around that time, and how much it would affect travel time. Anyone that can share their experience with this commute would be appreciated. Thanks!

Re: Commute from LI to Bronx?
I live in that area, and work in Manhasset which takes the same route.
I leave around that time and on average it takes me 30-45 minutes to get to Manhasset from the south shore.
When it rains, it can be even longer.
That is prime rush hour time, especially once you hit the Queens border.
I haven't commuted to the boros in awhile, but I always gave myself more than an hour if I needed to be some place on time.
It's preferable to leave no later than 7AM IMO. I can always find something to do if I am early.

Re: Commute from LI to Bronx?
What bridge would you take ? The Cross Island is usually a mess during morning rush hour, and the Whitestone bridge has construction going on. Not sure if the Throgs Neck construction is completed yet.

Commute from LI to Bronx?
i live in queens and commute to the bronx around that time the commute from queens to the bronx in the morning is a piece of cake - no traffic (unless bad weather or an accident). it takes me about 20 minutes. the afternoon rush hour commute is another story - it takes me 45 minutes Im not sure how the commute from amityville to queens is though at that hour...

Re: Commute from LI to Bronx?
I used to go from West Babylon to Jersey via the Cross Bronx - well until I figured out the Triboro was quicker.
It definitely depends on where in the Bronx but 45 minutes is really optimistic even if you were right off the Throgs Neck or Whitestone. The earlier you leave the better - 7:30 maybe, 8:00 I highly doubt it.
And like another poster said, coming home will be much worse.

Re: Commute from LI to Bronx?
Like everyone else said, it depends on where in the Bronx, but I think 45 minutes is underestimating it, b/c it used to take me 45 minutes to go from Bethpage to the Bronx (near the zoo) at night & on weekends.

Re: Commute from LI to Bronx?
Yikes.
Coming home is rougher it seems.
Some days it's not unusual for it to take me 2 hours and that's just from the Queens border.
It seems like the past few Fridays its rained too which has been horrid. A few weeks ago the Northern State flooded. It was awful.
Wouldn't want to be that sucker sitting in traffic coming in from the boros. JMO of course.
