For those of you with a long commute. . .
Do you go to drs & dentists near your job, near your home, or somewhere in between?

When I was commuting into the city, my general doctor was in my town, within walking distance of the train station. My dermatologist and dentist were in the city.
ETA: I liked my general doctor near my home for days I was home sick and needed to see him.

It's always been easier for me to keep my drs in NYC since I'm here 5 days a week.

Re: For those of you with a long commute. . .
I sort have some on both ends (some in NYC, some in Westchester)
I find that having them in NYC is MUCh easier for appointments and stuff.. BUT then if I'm sick to the point of NOT being able to get to work, then I have no doctor close to home

yeah, that's my problem. Also, I don't want to find new drs b/c my job is moving & then new one agian when I get a new job.
And no one I know goes to drs ( or anything else for that matter) near my new office, so I don't knwo how to pick one. Just randomly out of the Health insurance book?

Its stinks, hence the reason I WISH I worked outside of NYC at this point!!
Heather I am in a big firm so I can post on our email bulletin board for doctor recommendations.. and I've had some luck this way. But honestly when in a pinch (for instance, I had a problem with an eye infection last week and could not get a hold of my regular doctor) I literally went onto the United Healtcare website and found a doctor right by my office.. he was terrific and I'm good as new
Preferably its good to go on recommendaitons BUT sometimes its so hard to get a good one
Or you can just post here, a lot of the guys and girls work in NYC ..

Re: For those of you with a long commute. . .
I was trying to get them all in the city, but one long night with a toothache made me go back to all the same ones in Staten Island. But my job has a free clinic, so that is always helpful, we get Rx's from them

Re: For those of you with a long commute. . .
That's sorta how I ended up with my current GP. I had an injury & my doc a tthe time was in Queens ( where I used to live), so I went with location & who could take me that day 9inManhattan) He was ok, he reffered to a speicalis tinteh same building, who was better. He remains my GP, but I haven't gone back.

I go near home. I normally go in late or take the day off when I have doctor's appointments.

I try to go to a dr that has a location in NYC, where i work, and in Brooklyn, where I live.
My regular dr, obgyn and dermatologist have locations in my neighborhood and in the city.
wow--I'm surprised you were able to find that for all 3.

Re: For those of you with a long commute. . .
I commute from the Bronx to Putnam, and I am thinking about finding docs around Mount Kisco, which seems to be about the halfway point (and there seems to be good shopping there too) between work and home.
Also, there don't seem to be ANY doctors in Putnam who take my insurance.

Re: For those of you with a long commute. . .
I started making all my dr appts close to home...and I go on Saturdays or I take a day off. I don't like to stay in the city any longer than I have to or go at lunch - it takes too long. Plus I don't plan on working in the city forever so I'm switching everything to my home base now.

Most of my doctors are at home... ob/gyn, gen'l, dermatologist, dds. Eye doctor is in Manhattan because I had an eye infection & he took me right away - and also I refuse to pay a "fee" that the other optometrist charge so I can get my RX to send to 1800-CONTACTS.

Re: For those of you with a long commute. . .
I have a DR by where I live. But I try to make all my appointments in the city. I usually go to DR's appointments during my lunch hour. That way I can really enjoy my days off and don't have to worry about going to DR's on my days off.

Re: For those of you with a long commute. . .
Except for my dentist, my doctors are near my office. 99% of the time I need to go to a doctor, I will be at work anyway (physicals, prescription refills, referrals, etc).
I would prefer not to alter my work schedule by a couple of hours for a dr. appointment that would take at the most 30 minutes.
