Computer anti-virus software
Do you use it? Which one?
Do you really think it does anything?
I feel like half the time, Norton tells me the trojan horse could not be repaired. Then why am I paying $60/year

DH paid for norton. he had trouble installing it so he called cust. svc and they helped him alot. he got one guy that showed him all these ways to clean up junk and his computer is 1000x's better!
Dh then showed me and i freed up quite a few gigs of temp files, junk, etc.

Re: Computer anti-virus software
AVG all the way for me. Started using it when it was brand new, install it on my family's computers, and now use the professional paid version for securing my work network.
My problem with Norton (and this is purely from a techie point of view) is that it used to be notoriously hard to remove all traces of it when you were done with the program. Even now, a new laptop I got last week had a trial on there, I removed it, and when I tried to install AVG after rebooting, I got an error that there was already another program installed. Sigh.
McAfee I used at my last job and it was pretty good. I just like AVG as a company better because they have a free product for the masses, and any company that gives something away free and clear is a friend of mine.
By the way, McAfee's "Stinger" program saved my @ss years ago when we got a really horrible infection that took down two entire branches of my old company.

I use AVG and it is great. My brother is an IT and he was the one who recommended it.

Re: Computer anti-virus software
I use McAfee. We have a corporate license at work, which allows us to have the professional version on our home computers for free. (The theory is that if your employee's computers have a virus and bring disks in, it put the company computers at a higher risk).
It works pretty good. Since I've had it, I haven't gotten any viruses. Adware, trojans, etc get past the anti-virus, but I use Adaware and Spybot to handle those things.

The free one or another version? I have the free one installed AND Norton. There was a compatibility issue but they both run.

Re: Computer anti-virus software
I use Kapersky. It works really well for the most part. Every once and a while something does get past it, but that only happens when DH downloads something he shouldn't (like movies that end up having viruses attached).
