Concerned with 6 mth DS eating habits.....I need help...
I am so frustrated! DS is not a very good eater. We started him on rice cereal a few weeks ago and he wasn't crazy about it. We then tried the other cereals....nothing. His ped recommended veggies....did like those. Then fruit...unsucessful. We went back to rice cereal and he only eats it if it is a very thin consistency. And that is with a lot of cajoling from us...whether its singing or talking him through it. Its exhausting....The minute the spoon touches his mouth he starts crying...first slowly and then harder....as if he is being tortured. He even will clamp his mouth shut as soon as the spoon touches it. We tried keeping him hungry and nothing.
I am at my wits end and do not know what to do. Last mth our ped was concerned that he had only gained a few ounces. I don't think he has gained much this month either. We started him on formula 2 mths ago and he has had no problems with it.
He is also starting daycare in 2 weeks and I really don't think anyone is going to sit 25-35 minutes with him "convincing" him to eat. I need help......anyone go through this and can give me some wisdom?

How old is your ds? maybe hes just not ready yet. I would wait and try again in a few weeks.
eta: just realized you said 6m.. i would wait for him to show signs of him wanting to eat .. like reaching for your food. Thats what we did with my dd. I didnt go by the timeline doc gave.

I should have said he does show signs. When we sit for dinner, he just sits there staring at us. If I pick him up and I have my plate in front of me, he will grab for my plate....I thought they were signs. He was also up to almost 32-34 ounces of milk per day and still hungry.....

Could you try giving him things off your plate.. like mashed potatoes? Maybe that will help him with eating... it maybe a texture issue hes having with the food.

I think you are giving up on the foods too quickly. It can take up to 18 times for a new food before a child accepts it. (That is what I read.) Also, what type of foods are you feeding him? If it's store bought food, I would try making something from stratch, like home make sweet potato puree. Also, stick with one food for at least 3 days before you switch to something else.
