Confirmation- how much to give
Hi,
What is the normal monetary gift for a communion? It is for my nephew.
Thanks
ETA Whoops, its a confirmation and not a communion. Not sure if that matters in regards to gift.

Re: Communion - how much to give
For a nephew, we would probably give $500. My DH was just the god father for our niece last weekend and between the cross and monetary gift we spent $1000.

Wow!! That's A LOT of money. Nobody in my family gives that kind of money for communions, not even close. I don't even give that much for weddings let alone a child's communion!! You're generous!!
Anywhere from $100-150 seems reasonable to me. I wouldn't give more than that to any of my nieces or nephews nor would I expect anything more than that for my kids when the time comes for them to make their communions.

Wow, that is a lot of money. I dont even think my parents gave anywhere near that to my kids, maybe $100.
I am giving my nephew $50 as that is what we can afford.

Re: Communion - how much to give
For anyone else, we usually give $100. For immediate family, $200 with a present. Like something from things remembered (Engraved frame, etc)

I have actually never been to a confirmation party and so have never given a gift for this.

Re: Confirmation- how much to give
Depending on the relationship with the child, $100.
My son is making his Confirmation this year & honestly, I hate the idea that people even think about giving him money or worry about if it's enough. I just want them to come, enjoy lunch & celebrate with us. I don't even think he thinks he would get a gift.

Confirmation- how much to give
We usually give around $100-$150 for family. A little less than that for a friend's child.

Confirmation- how much to give
$500 is excessive.
$100 or $150 depending on where the party is at.

Why does it depend on where the party is at? That money should all be going to the child, not to pay for the party.

In my family for close relatives like my nephew (who is my godson) $500 is not excessive.
It all depends on the family , and your financial situation.
My parents gave us $1000 for my daughter's baptism.
It's all relative

It has nothing to do with "paying for the party". I just think that sometimes people feel obligated to give more (for any kind of party/event) when the venue is fancier and more formal.

Agreed. For my nephews I would give anywhere from $300-500 but that's just me however I think a gift of $100-$150 is fine too.

Re: Confirmation- how much to give
WOW $500!! I don't even give that for a wedding!!
For sacraments I'd give $50, unless I was the Godparent or sponsor, then I'd give $100.

Who is to say what is excessive? In my family $500 would be the standard gift from an aunt & uncle for a communion or confirmation. An Aunt or Uncle would never give $100 in my family for such a big occasion. Each family & culture is different.
To the OP: If you can I would do at least $300, but of course only give what you are comfortable with.
