This was a heinous crime. No doubt about it. Race, where the heck does that fit in ?
IMO, death is the easy way out for him. Life without parole with daily reminders of what he did and who he did it to would be more of a punishment.
See, I think of it as the opposite. 3 square meals a day, getting to watch tv, the option to take college courses if they want, corresponding with nutballs who idolize them....I just don't think life in jail is right for this particular crime. Not that life in a maximum security facility is a cake walk, but IMO they shouldn't have ANY comforts at all.
Either way he gets the easy way out IMO. He should be tortured in the exact same fashion he tortured his victims. An eye for an eye.
He wanted life without parole, so I think death is suiting since its exactly what he did NOT want.
Really? I thought he wanted the death penalty? It says in the article he smiled when they announced that he would be sentenced to death.
There was an article the other day about his brother and he spoke how he wanted life without parole.
Doesn't matter in the end, justice was served. 1 down 1 to go.
this article made it seem like he wanted death.

So torn on this, mainly because his lawyer came out and said that he actually wanted the death penalty. I can see how it is the easy way out but then again our jail system is pretty messed up. We allow these types of ppl to have tv, gym time, 3 meals a day, and even allow them to get an education. I think it should all be based on the individual and in his case, we gave him what he wanted.. to be put to death. In his case I think he should rot! Although my idea of "rot" is a jail cell, a bed and that's pretty much it. Solitary confinement for the rest of his life. It sickens me that there are people like this in this world. My heart goes out to the family of the victims, especially the husband/father... I dont know how he ever gets out of bed
Actually, on death row, these kinds of privileges are generally severely limited, or eliminated altogether. Death row inmates spend an average of 23 hours a day in their cell, and usually have no access to educational or employment opportunities (much less interaction with other human beings). In some states, they have access to a common room with a TV, but in many states they only get 1 hour outside of their cell the whole day.
Not saying that he doesn't deserve the worst, but in my opinion, death row is pretty much the worst. Death itself would be an easy way out (and obviously what he wanted), but death row is not death. It's waiting day after day for your life to come to an end, knowing that you will never spend another day really living. As far as I know, it's the worst possible way we could punish someone while staying within the law. Unless we want to start waterboarding....the lawyers did say it was okay, right?

I was always against the death penalty for reasons others described (not harsh enough) but the way you explained yourself has me rethinking that. Thanks for sharing.
