conn xmas house fire
i am watching the news conference right now and i want to jump through my tv and kill these reporters they keep harping on the fact that the family shoudn't have been living there during the renovations cause its against the code. OK maybe it is.. but that doesn't make this any less tragic

Re: conn xmas house fire
Renovations ongoing or not, wouldn't have made a difference since the fire was related to the fireplace and the embers not being properly extinguished. They're looking for a new angle. They were looking to peg it ON the renovations it seemed but now they can't, so they'll peg it on mom saying they shoudn't have been living there? Plenty of people live in their homes through renovations!

Re: conn xmas house fire
I don't even want to watch any more stories about this. I saw this on the news last night and it made me so sad for that mom. Whatever happened, no one deserves to lose their children and their parents in one shot, on Christmas morning.

Re: conn xmas house fire
the fire chief just gave it to them. told them that its not about whether or not the family should be there. it should be about this mother losing her entire family

Re: conn xmas house fire
This seems so sad to me. Part of me feels like maybe there is more to it and another part of me feels like this is a horrible and tragic accident. Above all, the take away is make sure that your embers are completely extinguished before going up to bed. I know for our hanukkah menorah an adult never leaves the room while the menorah is lit and I clean out the candle holders right after they go out to make certain there is nothing remaining.

Re: conn xmas house fire
I had to turn it off. Especially when there was one of the officials had to jump in and say that they didn't ask the mom all these questions or get full answers from her yet. Give it a break- they don't know, the woman lost the 5 people in the world closest to her!! The Reporters were being vicious!

I feel like there is more to it. I should probably read the updates, since I haven't read since they found the cause fo the fire, etc. But the initial report said she was in the house was rescued with a "male acquaintance in his boxers"... and the hsband was in manhattan at the time.
There's SO much that could be going on there..

She had a boyfriend, so what?
The media was trying to make this all so much more succulent than it is.

I thought he was the contractor that was doing the work, he was living there while doing it.

This is where I need to catch up. The first article I read about it on Christmas said it was her husband. I was thinking it might be a jealousy/arson thing.

Re: conn xmas house fire
So on the news they said the entire house (it was huge) had NO fire alarms. How can that be legal? How can they have thought that was a good idea in any way shape or form? I think the woman is dating the contractor. What is sad for me is that my mind immediately thought she wanted to start a new life with the contractor and got rid of the rest of the family. It is so so incredibly sad. I am not sure. I want to believe that it was just a horrible accident, I really really do. But some part of me wonders - what if it was not an accident.
