Consumer Alert: Baby Bargains book withdraws recommendation for certain plastic baby bottles
Here's the link below to the article. I'm not sure if this was laready posted but the main bottles effected are specifically Avent’s Natural Feeding Bottle and Dr. Brown’s Natural Flow (or any bottle made of polycarbonate plastic)---these products were previously recommended by BABY BARGAINS.

It looks like they are even saying that over time with all the washing of the bottles it's a danger also.

It also is saying that they don't definately know anything for a fact b/c they weren't tested in that manner yet.
And I agree with the pp, people have been using Avents and Dr Brown's for years now...

Aren't water bottles and other household plastics made out of this material also?

That's what it says in the article as well.
I kind of think this is a lot of freaking people out when there is no solid evidence.

Considering babies brains are more susceptible to toxins, this is one risk I'm not willing to take.
Plastic water bottles aren't heated over and over, so there's no chance for toxic leaching.
I'll use the drop-ins I recieved at my shower. If those don't work, it's on to glass I suppose....

This has been going on for at least a yr now.
You should never microwave or heat anything made of plastic. It can be dangerous.
I never did and I never used warm formula so I am not worried.
If it was that big of a concern they would be pulled from the shelves. And since this has been going on for so long, obviously there is no proven facts.

See, this is what I thought when I saw this post, I thought this was old news.
I am the same way, we don't have a microwave, so DS gets room temp bottles. I use Avents, VentAires and Drop Ins.

Re: Consumer Alert: Baby Bargains book withdraws recommendation for certain plastic baby bottles
I agree this is not a formal recall, but it is upsetting to me! I use Avent bottles with the microwave sterilizer and plug-in warmer that uses water. I think its a personal choice but I, for one, am changing bottle brands. Maybe the companies involved are reluctant to issue a formal recall because basically all of their product is effected? Who knows, but it is sad, I really did like the Avent bottles.
I just wanted to add that I don't mean to cause a scare or say what's right or wrong, but I just wanted to share the information from a website that I consider a legit source of good information so the mommies here can make their own decisions.

Re: Consumer Alert: Baby Bargains book withdraws recommendation for certain plastic baby bottles
This was on the news before I had DS and I changed the bottles on my registry to the drop-in's. There are no PROVEN facts, but there is enough to cause concern. It could be years before someone confirms there is a problem and I would rather take precaution now than worry about it later.

It's kind of freaky to read...but it is written in pure scare tactic mode. Oddly, the 3 most popular bottles are the only ones they name (though they claim there are more...then which ones are they?)
Our parents grew up in lead paint and asbestos (as did some of us)...we're still here.

Re: Consumer Alert: Baby Bargains book withdraws recommendation for certain plastic baby bottles
Proven or not, I am freaked out.. I'm sending DH to BRU tomorrow to pick up new bottles. There is NO PRICE when it comes to DD's health, I am not waiting for them to prove either way. I will pay the extra $ for the peace of mind knowing that my daughter will no longer be at risk.

Re: Consumer Alert: Baby Bargains book withdraws recommendation for certain plastic baby bottles
well, I've been using dr. browns for a year and a half and I did heat them in the microwave. I also used the bottle warmer. I have to use them now, I don't heat them anymore, because DS won't drink from any other bottle.
I guess with baby number two maybe I'll try the drop in's. I don't want to cause any harm to my kid.
Don't we all heat plastic tupperware and eat the food that's in there - what's the difference?

I've recently read that you should not heat things in tupperware for the same reason. Also, you shouldn't drink a bottled water that has been exposed to heat, like sitting in your car.

These seem to be the only glass bottles that BRU carries.
Just wonderful...what did I do with Jared? Microwave his bottles to warm them up...

ITA!!!!
There are no studies or anything else to back it up AND the companies haven't pulled the bottles from the shelves.
I sort of feel like a glass bottle which could shatter into a million pieces could be more of a hazzard than a POSSIBLE issue with these bottles where there have been NO studies yet.
I was telling my mom this today, and I had my drop ins and she told me to put the bottle in the microwave....b/c she used drop ins when my sister and I were babies and they used those in the micro then, and my sister and I are FINE.
