Re: Consumers Kitchens?
We just ordered our cabinets through them in Commack. We went to Lowes, Home Depot and we had a private cabinet guy come in and all were about $1,300 more than Consumers. Just some quick info:
Lowes doesn't give written estimates Home Depot. Had a fight with the guy because he was trying to tell me he couldn't give me an estimate until someone came out and measured. After a small disagreement, he gave us an estimate. Then to boot when we told him he came out much higher than consumers he a few days later called us and told us they would match thier price.
If you have any other questions just let me know!

Re: Consumers Kitchens?
We used them. I'm not happy with them at all. Other people have had GREAT experiences, us, not so much.
The "designer" we met with - wasn't very creative. The only thing that she suggested that was awesome - was for us to get a casement (instead of double hung) window above our sink, so we didn't have to reach over it to open it...
They are totally stock cabinets. We have two very large areas that are just dead space - we have filler pieces in there. It annoys me to no end b/c we paid a lot of money for these cabinets and if we had gone the custom route, we wouldn't have this issue.
There are panel pieces on our island that are not flush so the sides show and of course they're unfinished.
Overall - I'm just really unhappy with them. If you're planning on spending $15K or more - definitely go custom, I'm sure you'll be able to find someone to work with you. I think someone on here's father is a cabinet-maker.
You can hold off on the appliance delivery too...

you are completely right- most people don't realize that they can get custom crafted cabinets, built to their exact specifications for the same price as going w/ stock Kraftmaid cabinets.
What most people also don't know is that the basic Kraftmaid cabinets are MDF- which is basically cardboard.. one leak under the kitchen sink, and the cabinet turns to mush. To get solid hardwood-plywood boxes, it's an upcharge.

I believe they are running a really great special where a lot of upgrades are being included in the price. We also have a small kitchen so when it came to creativity there wasn't much to be had....we had to go with the same look that we currently had.

Re: Consumers Kitchens?
We had a good experience with them - the cabinets we chose were Kraftmaid, with wood interior, no MDF and the designer definitely helped us figure out a few different options for our space. I think that you can buy both cheap and expensive cabinets anywhere, so when shopping no matter where you are, you have to ask for upgrades to wood cabinets, soft close doors, pull out shelving etc. Basically don't assume anything.
No matter who you go to, you won't get cabinets by next week though ours took 6 weeks to come in once the order was placed, and there are some that can take a lot longer.

Re: Consumers Kitchens?
We got Wellborn cabinets from Kitchen Masters in Bohemia. Used them for vanities in both bathroom renovations. Price, for the all wood, was comparable to Home Depot. They delivered in 4 weeks, right on schedule with the estimate both times. Kitchen Masters also offers another custom line - more expensive but absolutely gorgeous. I think it was Mouser.

Re: Consumers Kitchens?
We had our galley kitchen done at Consumers through our contractor. They did a nice job with the layout and the details I added with the handles, color etc.
The contractor had them do several layouts and we chose our favorite. There are fillers in our kitchen but 1 is so high up I don't even see it.
The only issue I had with Kraftmaid. But once I called Consumers and explained that I was unhappy with the way 2 cabinet doors were wearing, a rep from Kraftmaid called me right away and came to my apt. that week & refinished them. Not only did he redo them, he also redid some areas under the cabinet that I nicked up.
I looked at alot of magazines and came up w/ look that I was going for.

Re: Consumers Kitchens?
We just ordered our kitchen from them in December and we were extremely happy! We used Keith in East Meadow and he was wonderful!! We priced HD, Lowes, Dun Rite, a place in hicksville and we were happiest with Consumers. My parents got their cabinets from their 18 years ago, and they are in great condition.

I completely agree with this. I would push off your appliance delivery (we had to do this several time and not a big deal.) Shop around for custom if it is an option.

Re: Consumers Kitchens?
We used them for our kitchen. First we went to the one in East Meadow and had a horrible experience with them. Way to long to write about. My mil convinced me to go to the one on Sunrise Hwy and use the guy she used. I did and I was so happy. They didn't rush me and helped with design ideas.

Re: Consumers Kitchens?
We just used Consumers in East Meadow (Matthew) and we had no problems the designer was great and everything went according to schedule. I would use them again they had better prices then Lowes or Home Depot and Consumers had alot of added options at no cost

I found better prices at a place on old country road called Swan Kitchen Tile and Bath - they were very negiotable and I loved the cabinets.

Re: Consumers Kitchens?
go to consumerreports.org before ordering cabinets.... they wrote a report basically stating that cost is essentially independent of quality as far as kitchen cabinets go!
they actually recommended IKEA and mills pride as lower cost cabinets that performed better on their tests than more $$$ brands.
