Re: cost of being maid of honor?
I think it depends on what type of bride she is.
I have never been the MOH but I've been a bridesmaid. It always cost me a minimum of $2k. The last wedding I was in I probably spent more like $4-5k but we really splurged in Vegas and I had to travel to NY for every event. Amtrak and hotel in Manhattan is not cheap.
If we kept everything local and I was also local, it could probably cost $1000-2000. Our friends always want an excuse to travel though.

Re: cost of being maid of honor?
I am a MOH in a wedding this summer. No way am I going to spend $2k!
Dress $275 (my mom is going to do a quick alter so it doesnt cost me $375)
Shoes - Borrowing from my aunt (why pay for something Im only gonna wear once?)
Shower $0
Bachelorette - Dinner and drinks for a very small group so it shouldnt be too bad. Maybe $200 each?
Hair and makeup - Not sure but I dont go anywhere crazy expensive.
Special group bridal party shower gift $50 (in addition to my own gift off registry)
Under $1 for sure!
I am not counting my shower gift or wedding gift because I am not giving extra because I am the MOH. I am giving my friend a gift because she is my friend not because I have a title for a day!

Re: cost of being maid of honor?
about a $1000-1500. Depends on the shower and if the family pays for it or pitches in.

Re: cost of being maid of honor?
I would say it depends. I was MOH for my sister's wedding and the cost was nowhere near 2K!
