cost of central air installation?
Can anyone provide me with a general idea of how much it cost you to install central a/c in your house?
Can you also let me know if the work was done recently, and the type of house you have (split, ranch, etc) ?

We have a colonial, about 1400 sq ft. We had cac installed last April/May, including all new duct work. Our unit is really efficient, 18 SEERS (or something like that) so I know that costs more but can be worth it. We paid $10K. Once we turn our CAC on for the season we don't turn it off, ever. We keep the temp at 70 and our LIPA bill was always around $120/month, actual usage.
We checked out different companies and got quotes from $6400 to $12,000

Spent 16,000, 18 seer (I think), energy efficient Lennox unit with Hepa filtration, with $3,000 in rebates (so cost in the end was 13,000). One unit, 2 floors.

We had our unit and ducts replaced so I cannot give you a price but I can give you some recommendations if you are in suffolk.

We are getting our CAC installed tomorrow. We have a ranch style house with basement which will have a drop, 15 SEERS, TRANE unit. 9K.

It all depends on how many SEERS, type of unit, sq. footage, zones etc.

We had quotes as high as 13k and as low as 8K. Surprisingly enough, the 8k job offered the most. I will say that the hard sell of Sears made me nauseous. We have a small house - ranch style.

ugh arent those hard sells the WORST?
i had one with home depot recently for a fence and i wanted to kick the guy out of my house. so uncomfortable (and over priced!)
