Costs of Optimum triple play vs. Verizon Fios?

How much does everyone pay for their triple play service from Cablevision?
We used to pay $167/mo for phone, cable, and internet. We paid a little more than the basics because we had the HBO package plus DH wanted Howard Stern on demand.

With the baby on the way, we're looking to cut corners wherever we can. In December we canceled the HBO package so last month's bill was pro-rated and was only $144. We figured this month's bill would be even less, but instead it's $155. We called Cablevision yesterday to try to figure out why it's not cheaper, but we were on hold for more than 40 minutes!

I know it's only $11, but I don't understand it. With the aggravation we're thinking of switching to Verizon Fios because it's not only cheaper but we've heard the service is better.

Tia.

I would love to hear ppls thoughts on this too because my DH has been bugging me to call Verizon to switch..but I'm not sure if I'd be in a better situation, having the hassle of switching everything over and such.

we switched over the Verizon once our cablevision triple play was over.. we now pay $89 month plus tax..
the internet is faster, and the picture on the tv is actually better! we are pleased! and its a 2 yr agreement so its good that the price is locked for that amount of time.

the $89 includes, Showtime channels, and starz

we didnt get the HBO package.. we dont need it.

I pay about $130 a month for all 3 with Cable (This includes 2 reg boxes and 1 DVR box).

FYI I was going to go with Verizon and then I called up Cable and they beat the price

Wanted to add: Cable also has more HD channels, Verizon did not have an appt for 2-weeks to come and set it up and until Fios get's up to par with Cable, I will then switch.

we love FIOS. We pay about $200/month but we have almost everything u can get. I think we have everything but the sports package. the most expensive part is the HD multi room DVR. I love having it - I can watch something I DVR'd from a non-DVR box - but that alone is $20/month.

ETA: Since you get on demand for every premium station you order, its cut down on the 'going to the movies,' expense, which is one of DH's favorite things to do. We used to go almost every weekend; now we go once every 4-6 weeks.

WHOA! I pay about $160 and I don't have Showtime or Starz. I have the multiroom DVR in my living room and 2 boxes in the playroom and office. How many boxes do you have? I am calling these guys today!

Hmmmm. Does your phone service include all the same features as the Optimum service (caller ID, call-waiting, etc)? $89 plus tax is something we can switch for!

Thanks, everyone...this is so helpful!

Phone includes everything cablevision has and the internet is twice as fast with a clearer picture, some people say "cablevisioin has more HD" they have one more for 2 months and then fios does then cable vision..... so that is no reason so stay with crapovision.

Optimum is cheaper, but Verizon has a clearer picture. My cousin switched to FIOS then a few months later took the Cablevision offer to switch back and her DH is totally annoyed that the HD channels on Cablevision are not as clear.

Unless I counted wrong on the FIOS website, Fios has about 26 HD channels and I believe cable has 44.

My neighbor has both, and honestly the "clearer picture" is really not noticible side by side...on some channels yes and then on other cable looks better.

Personally I think there are too many horror stories about FIOS including their install process and customer service. And alot of customers go back to cable after switching to Fios.

I Looked at the channed linup and can't really see what I am missing , RUSH HD, Kung _Fu and RAVE I can live without....

Re: Costs of Optimum triple play vs. Verizon Fios?

Price aside, we were totally fed up with Optimum triple play after a month. We switched to FIOS as soon as it became available and have been totally happy since. DH is a huge movie buff- so we get every movie channel but Cinemax. DH also upgraded the internet speed and took an unlimited phone plan. That all totals close to $200 a month, but we used to get it for $170-$180 before our introductory deal ran out.

Why we like it: the HD picture is a lot clearer, the cable never goes out, good customer service on the phone (though we sometimes do wait a bit to get someone), the new interactive guide is a lot friendlier and loads really quick, the cable box is a lot nicer, and the amount of free on demand attached to the movie channels is great.

And...if you have Verizon for cell phone service, you can attach it to your FIOS plan. Anytime you call your landline number from your cell phone it won't take away from your minutes!

Thanks again everyone. We called yesterday and got through within a few minutes and told Optimum we were thinking of switching to Verizon and they lowered our bill by 12%.
We're calling Verizon tomorrow to get a quote with our cell phone plans included - according to the Verizon website we would be able to get cable, house phone, internet, and cell phone service for two phones for $135.
(Right now we pay the $155 for our Oprimum bill then another $90 for our cell phone - seems like a no-brainer to us!)
Thanks again!

Same reasons here for us!!

All total I pay $180 a month for TV, Internet & Phone. I WAS paying $160 a month to Cacblevision for internet & TV, and we had no DVR & all the movie cahnnels we had played the same crap. The internet always was a problem too. THEN I payed like almost $60 a month for my Verizon land line phone. SO the savings is GREAT for us!

TV-2 regular boxes, 1 DVR box, HBO & Cinemax pkg. with those on demand as well. The picture is more clear & we love that!!

Phone-call waiting, caller ID all that jazz & I like that with my verizon wireless it'no minutes used if I call home!!

Internet-is fast with no problems and I think we only have the basic kind
