Couch to 5K program...now need help w/podcast
I would like to start the program and just wanted to know from those of you who have BTDT, are there any tips that you can share with me before I begin? Also, I have gained some weight in the last year and was wondering if it will affect the running/is this designed for pretty much anyone?
TIA!

Re: Couch to 5K program
The couch to 5k program is designed for beginners, so ANYONE can do it. The name "couch" to 5k meaning couch potatoes getting off their @sses and get moving. Any weight you may have gained will not effect the running. You will probably lose that weight doing this program. I certainly did(not all of it but I have a lot to lose).
One tip that I have is to use a podcast to make it easy to know when to walk and when to run. I would have never been able to do it if I had to use a stop watch.
Check out the Couch to 5k Thread, a few girls have posted links to these podcast. BUT I will warn you that these podcast are mostly techno music. I found a site where someone made them with real music. Regular Music C25K podcast
My other tip is if you feel like you need to repeat a week, DO IT. There is no shame in repeating a week if you need to. Don't go on to the next week if you are not ready to.

Re: Couch to 5K program
Definitely download a podcast like Dani said. I used this one b/c I also don't like techno music and this person put together some decent songs.
Nicole Blum's coach to 5K podcast
I also repeated a lot of weeks in the beginning b/c I didn't want to push myself too much and risk injury.
Good luck!

Re: Couch to 5K program
I couldn't run 3 minutes when I started and I finish the program tomorrow (if I run, I've been sick this week).
For the weeks when the workout was the same for the 3 days, I repeated it a 4th day (for weeks 7,8,and 9 I didn't because my endurance was better). I also did it much slower (over 6 months rather than the 9 weeks), and this helped me. Really if I can do it anyone can. I was the girl in HS who chould never run a full mile and took 15 minutes to walk it. Now I can run for 30 minutes, and 2.5 miles.
edited for grammar, lol.

this was so me as well! I was always the last one coming in from the 1 mile test.
thank you for all your responses. As far as the suggested podcasts go, do they tell you what pace to go when to run also, etc.?

There is a chime that tells you when to walk and when to run. I used the DJ Beatsmith podcasts. I think there are others too.

Re: Couch to 5K program
I totally recommend the couch to 5K. I was not running at all when I started and now I can run 3 miles. It's great because it slowly builds you up. Definitely use the podcasts like the other girls said, they really help you keep track of when to run and when to walk. I found I used them the first 5 weeks or so. I got them free from itunes. Just take your time, I was not running very fast at the beginning and that's fine. You will build up your endurance and speed as you go. Also, like PP said, don't be afraid to repeat weeks. I repeated one of the later weeks when you first have to run like 20 minutes at a time or something. Good luck and have fun!

Don't worry about pace. You want to build endurance 1st. Run at a pace that is comfortable for you. Work your way up to the 30 minutes and then you can work on speeding up your pace later on.

Re: Couch to 5K program...now need help w/podcast
Did you download from Itunes or one of the external sites? When I did the Nicole Blum one it downloaded to my computer (I put it on my desktop so I could find it faster) and then uploaded it into Itunes.
Also, I created a playlist of the podcasts and then set my preferences so that the playlist would be automatically updated whenever I plugged in my Ipod.

Re: Couch to 5K program...now need help w/podcast
I got mine from itunes. I went to the podcast and then clicked on it so I could see each episode of the podcast (week one, two and so on) they were listed like songs in an album. Once I saw the episodes at the bottom of my screen, I could click on each episode I wanted to download. If you just subscribe to a podcast, I think you only get new episodes as they are added. You have to go in and choose the old ones you want. Hope that helps!
