cough/cold for infants... medication, ped. recommended...
So as I said in the other thread, went to the ped. cold/double ear infection.
He said "this is just my opinion but I think you should give her triaminic daytime cold & cough, now it says 4yrs and up but I wouldd give 0.8ml, thats very conservative and it'll give her some relief."
Dont know what to think of that... I mean she is coughing to the point of throwing up everytime she gets into a coughing fit... BUT if it says 4 and up, it must be 4 and up for a reason.
What do you think of it all?
(DD is 9.5 months)

Re: cough/cold for infants... medication, ped. recommended...
When my dd had an ear infection/cold, the ped told me to give her any infant medicine with Acetaminophen. I think I ended up getting the CVS brand. It's like tylenol. Even for teething when it gets really bad I'll give her only one dropper's worth (I think that's .8 or .08?) but you can always call the ped and ask for dosage because they do it by weight. HTH
I just personally wouldn't feel safe giving her something that isn't for her age group...
ETA: I also had the humidifier on at night while she slept because she was very stuffy. This was during the winter so the radiator heat was drying up the air.

Re: cough/cold for infants... medication, ped. recommended...
My DS has had bad colds to the point where he throws up when he starts coughing or crying hard. He had a bad post-nasal drip, and a lot of mucus buildup.
My Ped said she doesn't advise giving any cold medication at his age (he's 21mos). She said it can affect is lung development.
She said I could try benedryl before bedtime to help dry him up, but that really wouldn't cure him. She said only before bed, and only for a couple of days. Otherwise, we should just ride it out. (And also dilute his milk bottles with water.)

did he give you an antibiotic for the ear infection?
When ds (6 mos) had a cold, I just took him in the bathroom a lot and steamed it up- he slept with a humidifyer and eventually it broke up
hope she feels better

My ped does not recommend any cough or cold meds. She said their side effects out weigh any benefit, and it can damage lungs. I would be afraid to give it. My ped also told me to cut back on.formula, give water and pedialyte.
