Countertops...

We do not plan on staying in our house. We would like to redo the kitchen a "cheap" way but make it look nice. Right now the countertops are just plain white. I don't know what the previous homeowners were thinking! Chat Icon But I think it would look much better if we redo the countertop and add tiling in as a backsplash. We can't afford new cabinets, but might try painting them also. Everything is dark brown because the house was built in the 70's. Any ideas on what kind of countertop would look nice, but obviously don't want to spend a lot of money? Thanks!

Formica has come a long way. You can get samples of the colors and designs at Home Depot or Lowes. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

And you can sand down the cabinets and paint them and then change the hardware to refresh them and update the look.

What about granite tile? I'm not sure what the cost is, but it's cheaper than a granite slab but still looks really nice (think about re-sale of the house).

Formica or tile

We did Formica - but the bad thing about Formica is it scratches easily.

Tile would look really nice and it is easy to take care of

We wanted a quick-fix for our kitchen too and just had formica installed last week on the recommendation of KellyFG on here. It looks great and totally transformed our very tired kitchen. FM me if you would like the information.
