Countertops...
I love granite but I think it will be WAY to much money. Our counter is about 14 feet long.
What are the other types and how much do you think they cost?

Re: Countertops...
We did custom fabricated formica & I love it. We paid about $800 for about 14 ft in an upgraded finish with a beleved edge & installed. I'm not a fan of granite & since we redid our kitchen on a shoestring budget formica was the best choice.

We're getting Corian countertops installed in March. It's made by Dupont. I think that Home Depot carries it if you wanted to see samples.

We're going to do Silestone too when we redo our kitchen countertops, but most likely not for a year or so

Re: Countertops...
We replaced the ugly green formica counter with a blockstone formica counter. We had Lowes Cut out the sink, and also they finished all the edges.
Our counter was over 8 feet. It costed $150 to do. We installed it ourselves. Scott The first picture is the ugly green counter. The second shot id the new counter, and this is a close up of the color

This looks great and could be a quick-fix option for our countertop. Did they do all the cutting and installation (we want to keep our old sink, just replace the countertop).

We got formica as well because we are only planning on living here for 2 years or so, then renting it out. I think ours is called Tuscan Marble

Re: Countertops...
I am not sure of the eact color since ours was already installed, but we too have formica (AKA laminte) countertops. The new formica is nothing like it was in the 80's. It is much better quality and generally speaking, you wouldn't even know it was formica! Most people can't believe our counters aren't granite! Even when we saw the house for the 2nd time, DH mentioned some slight scratches on the counter. I said, "oh, we can just buff them out". I had to look even closer before I realized they weren't granite! And I am a kitchen buff. Here are a few pics:

Re: Countertops...
Can you get sratches out of Formica? We have a long one on the right side of the sink.
Its not a big deal though. If we decide to keep the house after a few years, we will dormer the house...Maybe put a nice house long front porch in the front and redo the Kitchen - then get Granite Counters, but for now the Formica is just fine. Scott

Unfortunately, I don't think so. Could part of the laminate be replaced? That would certainly be cheaper than replacing the whole thing! If DH and I stay for 5 years, I would love to put in silestone. Just for the maintenance (or lack thereof!) alone it is so worth it!

Its a brand new counter - Dont want to replace it. Its one piece. I think it happened before we moved in. We had so much stuff on the counter, but we had towels on top to protect it - oh well what can you do about it Scott
