Covid test For school k-12, would you?

Saw this on a Group page.

If your child was required to take a covid test before starting in person school, would you have them take it? I found some of the answers interesting.

Me personally, I would have them take it if it meant they were going back.

I would if teachers were required to as well, but I don’t see what good it would do more than a false sense of security, just like temperature checks.

If that was the only way she could go to school yes, I'd have no choice. I'd do anything to have her back in school as normal.

if they needed it once, by the pediatrician, ok.

if they needed it more than once, or on school premises, absolutely not.

Yes I don’t see it as a big deal. It’s painful yes. I had to have my 3 year old tested by covid at PM pediatrics. Terrible it was out back in the rain and he was scared but it needed to be done. We talked about it after and I helped him through as much as I could. I think if anyone is sick it’s fine to be tested, testing is no cost to the parent

It is very invasive and can be quite painful. I would let my children get it before the first day of school, but repeated tests? No

What would be the point? Just because a person tests negative doesn't mean they won't get it and the tests aren't accurate enough. Why put your chikd through that?

If they can go to school afterwards then i would. And its not like the child is being tortured. It takes 5 seconds.

No. Just to start school? When they’re exhibiting zero symptoms? Nope, not putting my child through an invasive test unless they’re actually sick. So if they test negative in September, before any real exposure, they’re good to the whole rest of the year? I don’t think so!

Absolutely, my six year old has been tested twice- she was exposed on her last day of school and then again at camp- we both got tested the entire process took under 5 minutes for both of us. We did it a a drive through testing center- it is uncomfortable for a couple of minutes following the test.

I don't see the point, since someone could get tested, be negative, but unless they fully quarantine between the time they are tested and the time they start school, there's no guarantee they won't get covid.

I would but one covid test on one day is not really helpful unless it was a quick turnaround.

If it was required yes, but i think its ineffective since they vould catch it after the fact. I also don't think its feasible to do ongoing testing

That would be silly because 10 minutes after walking out of the testing facility, you could contract Covid..or any illness. So it's another false sense of security.

While this is true, isn’t the point to identify individuals who may be positive, yet asymptotic at the time of testing, to prevent them from spreading Covid to others?

The only way it would be beneficial is to test every person every single day. That is not happening. Wear your mask and wash your hands.

Covid test For school k-12, would you?

Yes. If those were the rules, I would. There are blood tests and spit-tube tests, too. Not necessarily available to us, but maybe for kids they'd do it

They could still contract it 10 minutes after being tested, asymptomatic doesn't mean you have it forever and it's just living in your body. Asymptomatic means you are infected with the virus and display absolutely no symptoms, ever, but your body rids itself of the virus eventually just like people who display symptoms.

Yep, no question.

BTW......I have had two tests recently (rapid and regular) and it was nowhere near as miserable as people have said. I think the initial tests were more uncomfortable, this was no worse than a flu swab so my kids could handle it without issue.
