Student test positive returning to school
link
I don't understand why a parent would have their child tested and still send their kid to school while waiting for test results?

Re: Student test positive returning to school
Was this summer school? I mean I know other states go back early but July? That seems crazy early to start school.
And yes, that was a stupid move to send a kid to school while waiting on results

It was the first day of school for the district.
It should be shocking that a parent would send them rather than waiting for results but I'm not surprised at all.

And yeah, nothing shocks me about people's stupidity lately

Re: Student test positive returning to school
If the school required testing before going, then all the test results should have been in before the first day. Otherwise this is a selfish parent who suspected their kid of being sick. It does not shock me at all. This is why we are going to be virtual.

Student test positive returning to school
From what I saw about Georgia’s first day back at school, those students and teachers are doomed.
I wonder if schools should consider mandating that each child and staff member get tested for the virus (and present the negative test findings) prior to returning to school in September?

Why do you say that?

About Georgia? Because masks are optional.
Two students started a petition to have them mandate masks and then one student did a counter-petition because he felt masks are anti-freedom.....
The news footage of the first day at this particular school showed students not distancing, hugging, hanging in groups, no masks.

Jeez.... how is being told to wear a mask any diff than being told clothes are required?

Right? One would think that after 250+ kids at a camp in Georgia became infected, that someone with common sense would mandate masks. Not Jefferson City Schools, apparently. I can’t even fathom being a teacher there. I’d quit.

The Georgia sleep away camp where hundreds got infected did require negative tests from everybody and still ended up with a huge outbreak.

Re: Student test positive returning to school
Who could have seen this coming????
Teachers are typically qualified to get and do jobs that pay a lot more and will permit online work. I hope people remember this before they drive too many to choose their own lives and futures and get other jobs.
We will reap what we have sown. This is what happens when people ignore experts and cave in to temper tantrums.

Not a good idea because there is a black market for negative test results...some employers are requiring employees to show negative test results and from what is propping up on some of my FB group feeds, some people are paying hundreds of dollars to get a fake result just to comply. People suck so I wouldnt even trust such a system due to crafty shysters.

Student test positive returning to school
Indiana is currently dealing with rising numbers- schools should not have reopened there. Many experts, including Fauci, have said that states with a low infection rate should be able to open schools with extra precautions in place. Most of the Northeast falls into those low infection rates. Ours was less than 1% for a few days in a row, hospitalizations are once again at an all time low today. I do believe we should try. Maybe they will only open for a few weeks- but we have to try at some point. If not now, when? When the vaccine comes out? The vaccine that nobody can even guarantee will pass phase 3 trials? I think people are so willing to wait for a vaccine because they believe it will be out in January. That is not a guarantee. We have to think of other ways to live with this, instead of just saying "stay like this until a vaccine comes." Most of Europe reopened schools, and not every country who did so experienced outbreaks. These countries had very low infection rates- comparable to NY.

This post wasn't meant to argue whether or not we should open schools. It was to point out the stupidity of parents and how selfish people are. The parents and child knew there was a possibility they could be positive and instead of waiting for the results they went ahead and sent the kid to school.

I am concerned that the school let the kid in the building before even getting the results. However, a neighbor has her kids in camp, and they wanted negative results before the first day. The results didn't come in time, and they still told her the kids could come!
