Crafting area...does it need to be a table?
If you were having children over to make crafts, would be it ok to have them do it on a (covered) floor sitting down or do they need a table with chairs?
they would be working with glue sticks, paper plates, and cotton balls (and probably crayons) if it matters.

Floor is fine in this case IMO. It's only one time, and I know my DD is 3 and loves to lay on her belly to do things on the floor. Maybe just make sure any girls with long hair have their hair pulled back so when they lean over their hair isn't dangling in glitter, etc.
