Crappy weather=Officially starting potty traing today,BTDT moms....any tips?

Being that the weather is supposed to be like this for the next weekChat Icon we have to be inside anyway,
I figured that this would be a good time to begin!
So some moms are telling me to let DS run around the house w/no diaper-this seems weird to me,any suggestions???
TIA!

We went right to underwear. Letting him run nude in my house is not an option Chat Icon He had a few accidents the first day, by day 2 he was about trained and on day 3 he was fully trained.

I will say though that we were really on pee training him at that point because he poopy potty trained 6 months before that.

Well I did the no diaper thing for a day or two, only because he had no problem pooping in underwear, but did not want to poop with nothing on. Once he had that down, we did underwear but stayed home for a few more days.

We did lots of rewards (Thomas trains that really broke the bank but they worked!).

He was totally trained in less than a week.

Good luck!

Ok, obviously I haven't done this before, but my SIL is potty training her 21 month old and I asked my girlfriend who had both her kids trained by two what she did and this is what she sent me

The ONLY way to train is COLD TURKEY. Summer time is best. One day, ceremoniously discard the diapers (hide a few in case) and have a big boy or big girl celebration with your child. Buy TONS of undies. You will do a lot of laundry for two weeks or so. I think naked for the first week is best. STAY HOME. Don't stress the child out. Play outside lots and bring the potty chair out. This way accidents will be outside. The child needs to be naked to see how pee pee happens. They have to pee all over the place to realize the link between the urge and the action. In diapers or pull ups they feel dry and can't possibly figure it out. Each time they start to pee, just rush them to the potty saying "it's okay, we're going to the potty... good job." Don't every yell or seem angry, no matter how much you are cleaning up poop or pee. Within a week they will get it. My kids got it in about 4 days. Plus, for the first two weeks or so take them to the potty like once an hour. Don't ask if they have to go, just put them on the potty. Have a potty in front of the TV if you need to. Whatever. Just make it accessible. While going out (wait a week, at least), have child in undies and put a towel in the car seat in case (although neither of mine ever had an accident in the car). Once you get where you are going take the child to the potty, wherever that is, the mall, grocery store, friend's house. The child needs to know that there are potties everywhere and they are all comfortable and accessible.

This is what we are doing and so far so good. We are on day 2 and only two accidents today.

A big thing to remember, is that every DC is different. Just because one parent trained their DC in one day, or someone else's was trained at 18 months, doesn't mean there aren't still accidents (I have a strict definition of "potty trained", and there can't be any accidents for at least a week to fully qualify). It also doesn't mean that you DC has to do the same, or that you should even try to duplicate what other parents are doing. It winds up putting extra stress on DC, even if you don't realize it. Some DC are just not ready until 3, 4 or even later.

thank you for your suggestions....they really helped, still some accidents on day 3 but getting better.....Just wondering-what did you BTDT moms do when it was naptime?
Am I confusing them by putting a diaper on only at nap/night time? TIA!

For me, it was all or nothing! No pull-ups at nap time because it was only going in reverse, IMO. I made him pee before nap and made sure he went right when he got up. He's never had an accident while napping (and he sleeps 2+ hours for naps).

At first, at night, I had a pull-up on him. Same thing, made him pee before bed, didn't let him drink 2 hours before going to bed. And amazingly he wakes up at night to pee, so after the first month, we stopped with the night time pull-ups too. He hasn't had an accident at night either.
