BTDT mom's of potty trained kids-PLease post your tips!

I need help with this-
My son is 2 1/2 and seems ready, Its ME who's too overwhelmed(or lazy) to start with this potty-training business!

And how do you explain to a 2 1/2 year old that they need to tell you *before* they have to go pee-pee, not after?

TIA!

You just have to ask and ask and ask. I was so stressed out the first few weeks, and probably drove DS crazy, but he did great.

We set up a reward system too, which really helped. Also, I didn't do pullups. We tried them for half a day and I realized they were hindering the process.

We did au naturale in the house for a few days, then underwear/no pants for a few days, then after less than a week we ventured out into the world fully clothed. He did great and never had an accident!

Good luck!

i 've tried two ways...
with my first i tried the put the kid on the toilet every 15 minutes and give lots of attention and rewards way

and with the second i just trained him in the summer... let him run around just in underwear and played outside most of the day..
there were a few accidents both ways but both trained pretty quickly once they were ready

thank you for your responses-

ok, so you both let your kids run around w/underwear or au naturale and stayed close to home, (obviouslyChat Icon ) but then put a diaper on them at night? did this confuse them?
and also, at this point, did you completely stop the diapers cold turkey?

See, when I try to get him to wear his *big boy underwear* sometimes he'll wear them, but sometimes he'll insist that he wants a diaper on...depending on his mood-this has been going on for weeks!
So I wonder how moms potty train their kids in like- 3days...any other secrets???
TIA!

Here's what I finally did to train her...

I basically told her there were no more diapers and bribed her.Chat Icon I said if she goes on the potty we will get candy. We went to the store and bought a package of snack size M&M's. Each time she went I gave her a package of candy. After about a day or two we were OK and she didn't ask for the candy. She was pretty much ready but I think she was just waiting for me to tell her no more diapers.

DD was 3 in March and still wears a diaper at night. Most mornings she wakes up dry and lately she has been calling in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom. Since she is still in her crib I am hesitant to remove the night diaper since she cannot make it to the bathroom by herself. Once the summer comes I plan on moving her into a bed and will hopefully get rid of the diapers completely.

My son poopy potty trained fully by the time he was 2-1/2. It was easy for us to know when he had to go, and he got lots of treats when he did (we went through a lot of Hershey Kisses and he had a sticker board in his room that when filled, he could get a toy he wanted).

I tried on several ocassions to pee train him. I put underwear on him and reminded him every 10 minutes. This was hard because I also had an infant at home. He would pee his underwear and just sit in it, not bothered until I saw he was wet. I knew he wasn't ready (this was in February).

On his 3rd b-day (early May), we told him no more diapers/pull-ups. We put underwear on him and bought him those pee targets to put in the toilet. He loved them, but 3 accidents the first day, 1 the next and 1 the next, but in 3 days he was fully trained. He was just ready then. And it was rather easy, he told us when he had to go and there was no looking back.

ETA: he does wear a pull-up at night, only because I am a nervous nelly. He wakes up dry and has woken up to pee in the middle of the night. I think more than likely he could be pulll-up free at night, I jsut don't want to chance it. He doesn't get confused at all, once he trained, he knew he had to pee in the potty all the time!

Forgive my laziness but I'm about to jump in the shower before the kids wake up.
