Crashing to Ask ? to Moms of Older Kids (10+)
When did you start letting your DC sit in the front seat?
My SS has been trying to get in the front for the past two yrs. We say he has to wait till he is 13 since thats what the warning states. Granted he will be 13 at the end of this year and is currently taller than me. But if it was up to me, I would keep him in the backseat forever and never let him in front.
I cant even imagine in a few yrs, when he will be trying to get a license and then harassing us to use our car
I am curious to see what other parents have done and if DH and I should chil-lax.

Re: Crashing to Ask ? to Moms of Older Kids (10+)
My sister just recently started letting my 12yo niece sit in the front occasionally. She still prefers she sit in the back because she is a peanut and sometimes the airbag censor does not recognize that she is sitting there because she is not heavy enough.

Hmmmmm....
My girls are 11, 11, & 16.....
The 11 year olds sit in the front seat...
As do all of their friends....(and trust me it's a lot of friends) and I mean when they are with their parents not when they are with me.
I dont know specifically when I started letting them sit in the front seat. Maybe last year...

My oldest is almost 7 and I have seen some of his friends parents putting their 6 and 7 year olds in the front seat. Baffles me.
When they are old enough to drive, then they can sit in the front

I swear I don't think i sat in the front of my Mom's car until like 16! bThe back seat is the safest but my nephew does sit in the front with me when I have him in the car(he is 15)

When they got their learners permit.
DH and I went to a class and this was described as the "death seat" and we were shown some very graphic images of why it is described this way. It scared us silly.
We decided that we would be more comfortable with them in the back seat until they begin to learn the rules of the road, could understand how not to be a distraction and would need to observe to get a license of their own.

I started letting my oldest sit in the front seat this year, when she turned 12.

My SD is 10 and she is not allowed to sit in the front seat. Probably not until she is 12 or 13.

Re: Crashing to Ask ? to Moms of Older Kids (10+)
We waited until 13 with SS, he is small small small for his age (about 20 lbs below the weight chart) I would feel more comfortable having him in the back, but DH and SSs Mom are both OK with him being in the front, so that is where he goes.

I let my oldest when he was about 12, only because he was tiny. My other 2 at 10.

Well 13 for mostly all drives, but I did let him sit in the front at 12.5 being dropped off/picked up from school.

http://www.nydmv.state.ny.us/broch/c-1.htm
NYS recommends that children 12 and under sit in the back seat. It is not a law, but a recommendation. If you read the link it states it under the airbag section near the bottom.

I think around 10. She is 11 now, turning 12 in August.
