craving question: Peanut butter
You hear all these different things these days about foods and allergies and such.
I have no history or family history of an allergy to it. Honestly, I have not been feeling particularly well this pregnancy but I've been able to eat (and enjoy) PB&J sandwiches. I thought at first the high protein/fat content would be good b/c my stomach is so bad at night that regular dinner makes me sick. However, I know we aren't supposed to give it to young children for risk of allergy. My OB never said not to eat it (he said certain fish and unpasturized cheeses), but is there a "limit"?

I say eat it, if you have no family history your risk is only slight.

Re: craving question: Peanut butter
The only thing I've heard is that if you eat it in the 3rd trimester (& I assume this means fairly regularly, not just once), you should hold off on giving it to your child until s/he is 3 or older because it can increase the risk of an allergy.
I'm w/you, though. It's one of the few things I've enjoyed during my 1st trimester.

Re: craving question: Peanut butter
peanut butter if fine. they're actually finding now that withholding it during pregnancy (and possibly during early childhood) actually causes food allergies instead of preventing them. enjoy it (it's all i eat too!).

Re: craving question: Peanut butter
I eat it all the time!! I'm not worrying too much. I was very careful about what I ate in the beginning, now I don't care as much.

Re: craving question: Peanut butter
I don't know about any limits but these days with all the peannut butter product recalls I would not give into the craving at all until the salmonella issue is really resolved.

I ate it through my entire pregnancy. I was told not to eat it though after the babt was born if I'm breastfeeding

Same here. My pediatrician told me to stay avoid peanuts and other nuts while BFing. Other pediatricians give different advice though.
