Peanut Butter question
Does anyone know why drs say to wait to give peanut butter until after 2? Is a child born with the allergy, or is it something that they can develop up until the age of 2? I am confused by this. Thanks!

Re: Peanut Butter question
My Ped told me to wait until 3. Some say 1 though. Children are not born with allergies, they can develop and change.

Re: Peanut Butter question
it's a potent possible allergen.... when kids are young, they're more likely to develop an immune response to the peanuts, thus developing the dreaded 'peanut allergy'.... if they don't eat them until their immune systems are more mature, they are less likely to mistake a peanut for an infective agent, and are therefore less likely to develop an alllergy.

Re: Peanut Butter question
My Dr had cleared DS for all nuts but said to stay away from peanut butter because its a choking hazard...So I think that plays into it as well as the allergy issue
