Crib bumpers question
DD is 2.5months old
We have bumpers off on one side (2 on, 2 off) and I've heard her and have seen her hit her head a couple of times because she moves around so much
well last night she must have hit her face cause she woke up with a small bruise/redness under her eye
Should I put the bumpers back on the empty sides...she turns soooo much and tosses herself around, I'm afraid she's going to hurt herself by smashing her face in even harder
wwyd?

Re: Crib bumpers question
When DS started rolling over in his sleep, we took out all the regular bumpers and put in the breatheable ones. They are very thin.
Occasionally, we do hear DS bump into the rails, but he has never been hurt by it and he is now 2. I would rather him get a little bump here or there than smoosh his face into the regular bumper and have trouble breathing.

I agree completely.

Just posted this same question last week and this is the response I got - and I totally agree, too!

Re: Crib bumpers question
I am probably in the minority but I have always had bumpers in for my girls. My first DD had them in until we transitioned her bed to a toddler bed and now my 6 month old has them. I am comfortable with them being in but I know other people have concerns about babies having their faces in the bumpers. I've not had an issue.

Oh yeah, I know that there are a lot of moms who leave the regular bumpers in. I guess for us, we got a little scared when we went in for the first time to check on DS and his face was all smooshed into the bumper. I worried about him being able to breathe well enough. Completely personal choice, though!

Re: Crib bumpers question
DD is almost 8 weeks and we just put the breathable bumpers in her crib yesterday. She doesn't sleep in her crib yet at night, but she naps in there and sometimes we start her out in there at night. She moves around so much in her sleep now and I was getting nervous with the big thick bumpers in there.

Re: Crib bumpers question
DS is 7 months, and we just put breathable bumpers in. It was only recently that he started burying his face in the bumper at night and I couldn't sleep because of it!!!

Re: Crib bumpers question
I'm going to get the breathable bumpers soon too, but my DS is 9 weeks and I swaddle him (one arm out - he's a thumb sucker lol) and I still use the sleep positioner because he hasn't rolled over yet.

Re: Crib bumpers question
When is it considered safe to put the regualr bumpers that came with our bedding back in the crib?

Never really, if you go by the AAP recommendations.
