Crinone 8% Progesterone Suppository and Risks in Early Pregnancy
I'm just reading the pamphlet that came with the progesterone suppositories, and it said that there is a risk of birth defects to the baby.
It says, "birth defects have been reported in the offspring of women who were using Crinone during early pregnancy. These induced abdominal wall defect and cleft palate."
My RE just prescribed this to me today and I'm only 4w1d. Now I'm nervous about taking this. Ugh.
Advice please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Crinone 8% Progesterone Suppository and Risks in Early Pregnancy
When I was pg my progesterone was right on the border of being too low. My doctor didn't want to prescribe the suppositories to me because of the risk and because my levels were borderline. That being said I know a lot of women who have taken it and had perfectly fine children. If your doctor prescribed them to you then you must need them so I'd take them.

I took them during my pregnancy b/c my levels were ridiculously low..we're talking like 3 or 4...Does it say what category they are??? The risk it is probably extrememly minimal.

I had to use them as well. Dont recall what my numbers were, but I do remember reading that phamplet and freaking. I called the dr and the pharmacist to put my mind at ease. I know a few people who have used them. We all have healthy babies now

Re: Crinone 8% Progesterone Suppository and Risks in Early Pregnancy
I took it early in my pregnancy and DD is perfectly fine (she is 17 months). All medications have so many potential hazards. If you read inserts on any medication it is pretty freaky - but mostly they are there for liability. You have to weigh the risks v. the benefits.
Good luck

I took them as well - and no problems here.
I think they have to tell you that there are risks - they have to cover themselves god forbid something was to happen. But if you are that concerned - then contact your doctor and talk to them about it.

Thank you so much for the replies... I'm glad that you have used it and nothing bad happened. I called the pharmacist last night and said the same thing. I'm going to start my first dosage tonight.
