All for it. Many schools on LI are in desperate need of it. Also in need of teachers who aren’t just white.
Ok. So what’s stopping POC to becoming educators?
Plenty of POC are educators. But you won't find them in all white districts like Massapequa, wantagh, Commack, etc. That should change. As for the original question, I think children can only benefit.
But why not? Why don’t they work in those “white districts”?
Because those in the position to hire haven't learned critical race theory
This is utterly ridiculous and I reject it as an acceptable answer.
My issue with this answer is this... .if someone is truly not hiring a teacher to work in their distrcit for no other reason than because they are a POC , then do you truly believe that them taking a class on "critical race theory" is really going to make them change their ways? It's like how we all have to sit through sexual harassment training at work and then right after the usual predators are asking the girls out for drinks and hitting on them. Yeah that class really helped...
The answer is no, of course. The problem most likely has to do with qualified applicants. And the reasons behind why there aren’t enough run deep. But I’m white, so that’s probably a racist answer.
It's not a racist answer because you're white. It's a racist answer because it dismisses the lived experience of black people.
Regarding NN's point - yes, it's hard to change the perspective of adults. That's precisely why it has to be taught in school, when people are younger.

The fact that YOU feel that way about my response actually makes me feel really good. The day I agree with anything you have to say is the day I begin to question everything I believe in. There is nothing you have to say that I would ever begin to consider as values I would want in my life

Re: Critical Race Theory in School
I don't think some of you are getting what critical race theory actually is. It goes beyond using slurs.
It's about inherent racism in education, real estate, banking, careers, law enforcement, etc.
I am all for it being taught now in schools because this isn't an overnight change. This will start the foundation for our future police officers, lenders, teachers, healthcare workers, school administrators, college admissions personnel, etc.
If nothing else - please read this investigation that was done by Newsday.

Thank you for sharing this and the way you described it. Spot on. It's systemic and deep rooted and we have work to do.
This article is great. I have an agent I love already for when we sell my mom's house shortly, but if I didn't I would be taking notes on who not to hire.

Critical Race Theory in School
Did anyone else read about what happened on Wednesday at a preschool in Georgia? A father was checking in on his child via the cameras and noticed that all of the black children in the class did not have lunch and they were watching the white children eat. The school was immediately shut down permanently. I was sick to my stomach looking at the image of those children sitting there watching their friends eat. Racism is still a very real crisis in this country and if we don't start teaching future generations now it will never get any better.

How the hell could that even happen. The school should be brought up on charges. Those poor kids.

https://www.blackenterprise.com/disturbing-footage-of-incident-at-kids-r-kids-preschool-in-georgia-leads-to-franchisees-contract-termination/
This was in my fb news this morning but you can google it too by just putting in GA daycare not feeding black children and a bunch of stories come up.
I read a few and really can’t figure out what the motive was since the daycare is not speaking out yet. I do see the father though is just deciding to go to his lawyer and not even discuss with the daycare so that alerts me.
Was there an issue with these few kids and food? Was it intentional? I just wish we would hear more than 1 side.

Critical Race Theory in School
Even if, and that's a big if, it just so happened the black children in the class all had food allergies and couldn't eat school food, they should have been eating their good from home. Not sitting there and watching their friends eat. I do agree it is important to hear both sides of every story, but I just don't see how the daycare can come up with a good explanation for this. I am happy the franchise ended their contract with this location. The father who saw the footage sent his wife to pick up their son early and she confronted the director. She said she didn't know and maybe the children all had food allergies or food issues. The parents did not find this to be an acceptable answer and decided to contact a lawyer. Can't say I blame them. The parent company only terminated the contract after a discussion with the centers owner. So clearly they did not find her explanation good enough. It's impossible to say for sure what the reasoning was, but no one can deny it looks terrible. Those poor babies.

Not disagreeing at all. Just wonder the daycares side and this one day. Did parents see this happen before since they can see what goes on in the daycare? No one said a word then? Kids never mentioned how they didn’t get fed as many are old enough to communicate?
I haven’t read anything about the mother going there so can’t answer to that but I would be livid too if my child wasn’t being fed.
Sounds like this is a bigger story than what has been portrayed by one father.

I just feel like racism stems from the home. It doesn’t matter what you teach kids at school, if their family is racist the children have been exposed to that belief since childhood. A class in middle school isn’t going to change that.
Just like obesity....you can teach children in health class how to eat healthy but if they live in a house that eats crap and doesn’t exercise it’s a pointless class.
Same with drugs and sex. It’s parents jobs to teach kids how to be kind, responsible, healthy human beings. Teachers are there to teach. Parents maybe need to take a how not to be an a$$hole class?
While children are taught things at home, they are also influenced by what they learn at school and in other social settings. If the parents are not teaching them how to respect all people, then someone/thing else, such as schools, needs to do it.
My parents are not overtly racist, but they are definitely racist. I call them out on it regularly. I have very different views than my parents so children are not necessarily products of their parents. Their experiences outside of the home can influence them greatly.

I guess I just see it different because I was taught not to be racist and I go out of my way to teach my kids not to be racist. They are young and get it.
I think we need to teach basic love and respect for one another. It’s gone out the window recently.

Critical Race Theory in School
Can someone explain in simple terms what this actually entails?
I have read so many different things and I think all the misinformation out there is what makes people against it. I read some crazy stuff when trying to learn more about it.
Is it an actual class/lesson or is it just integrated into the curriculum?
Is this bringing people into the school to teach it?

Teaching basic love and respect is a nice idea but it is simplistic and doesn't get to the root of the racism that is built into this country.

Because the first step in truly beginning to heal this country and tear down racism is whites realizing their role in the deep rooted systemic racism in this country. I am not talking about you, or me, or any individual person. This country is rooted in white supremacy. White supremacy is not just the KKK. To this day, whites are uncomfortable with the threat of their supremacy being extinguished. A perfect example is the rage over saying black lives matter and not all lives matter. The fact that so many can't see that nobody ever questions that white lives matter so it doesn't need to be said, boggles my mind.

Or maybe the media stop dividing the color of people and people continuing the racism talk. People want it to end but they non stop bring it into conversation all the time.
