Can someone explain in simple terms what this actually entails?

I have read so many different things and I think all the misinformation out there is what makes people against it. I read some crazy stuff when trying to learn more about it.

Is it an actual class/lesson or is it just integrated into the curriculum?

Is this bringing people into the school to teach it?

I’d really like this explained. Watching tv last night they were saying according to critical race theory white supremacy is the reason behind black on Asian crime?!?! Is this what they are going to be teaching?!??

And this is why I have major reservations. I don’t think at all it’s teaching basic love and respect as others assert. It’s reframing everything from a white supremest lens. How is this supposed to heal our racial tensions?

Because the first step in truly beginning to heal this country and tear down racism is whites realizing their role in the deep rooted systemic racism in this country. I am not talking about you, or me, or any individual person. This country is rooted in white supremacy. White supremacy is not just the KKK. To this day, whites are uncomfortable with the threat of their supremacy being extinguished. A perfect example is the rage over saying black lives matter and not all lives matter. The fact that so many can't see that nobody ever questions that white lives matter so it doesn't need to be said, boggles my mind.

Or maybe the media stop dividing the color of people and people continuing the racism talk.
People want it to end but they non stop bring it into conversation all the time.

Racism is not the media's fault. There was no media in the 1700s and 1800s.

Racism is fueled now by the media.

Critical Race Theory in School

If someone really believes racism is a media problem, there is no point in continuing this discussion. You say that because you have no idea what it is like living as a POC in this country. I know you don't mean it to come off this way, as I am sure you aren't some openly racist monster, however the above statement is a perfect example of white supremacy. Blaming it on the media. It is easier than admitting there is a real problem that has NOTHING to do with the media.

When the media says this black man or woman instead of this man or woman then yes, it will continue and be fueled.

This.

I have posted several resources for people to learn about this so we don't have to keep having the same conversation.

Ultimately, we cannot solve a problem that we ignore. If people continue to posit that ignoring this is the way to go, racism will continue to permeate our system.

How to be an Anti Racist by Ibram Xendi is an excellent read if anyone wants more info on this. There are many others as well.

I read the book and thought it was garbage and not particularly well-written.

Is anyone actually pro racist? Just like no one is pro abortion. Do you really feel people on here are racist or just do not understand?

I think the point of the thread is that the institutions we have are inherently racist. Like housing, banking, education, policing, etc.

I personally wouldn’t venture to call anyone racist here .

Exactly - systemic racism is very different and much harder to recognize than blatant racism. And it is much more because of the systemic racism that teaching critical race theory is so important.

First it depends on if your school is even going to be implementing it. Your best bet would be to listen in on a recent board of ed meeting, or contact them to see if it’s going to be implemented in your school and what that specific curriculum may or may not entail. If you are on Facebook, maybe see about asking in your local group.

Wikipedia has a good definition about critical race theory, but your school district may not even be doing it.

Board of education elections are coming up soon, and there’s a lot of candidates who are throwing their hat in the ring to run in order to either promote critical race theory in school or preventing it from happening…So it really is situational.

My school has not mentioned it. I’m curious to hear how schools will be carrying it out? Those in favor of it, how do you want it implemented? What do you want your kids to take away from it?

All for it. Many schools on LI are in desperate need of it. Also in need of teachers who aren’t just white.

Ok. So what’s stopping POC to becoming educators?

Plenty of POC are educators. But you won't find them in all white districts like Massapequa, wantagh, Commack, etc. That should change.
As for the original question, I think children can only benefit.

But why not? Why don’t they work in those “white districts”?

Because those in the position to hire haven't learned critical race theory

This is utterly ridiculous and I reject it as an acceptable answer.

My issue with this answer is this... .if someone is truly not hiring a teacher to work in their distrcit for no other reason than because they are a POC , then do you truly believe that them taking a class on "critical race theory" is really going to make them change their ways?
It's like how we all have to sit through sexual harassment training at work and then right after the usual predators are asking the girls out for drinks and hitting on them. Yeah that class really helped...

The answer is no, of course. The problem most likely has to do with qualified applicants. And the reasons behind why there aren’t enough run deep. But I’m white, so that’s probably a racist answer.

So you are saying POC aren't qualified enough to work in districts which are predominantly white? I find it hard to believe.

I am thinking she is saying that the number of qualified applicants that are POC is lower than the number of qualified white applicants.

I agree with what you're saying and that's why I think when it comes to things like racism and misogyny and other similar bs, those people shouldn't be in a position to make hiring decisions.

From what I’ve heard on other outlets, it scares the crap out of me. I mentioned how I listened to a segment that said according to critical race theory whites are blamed for black on Asian hate crimes. I don’t want this taught to my kids.

I would like my questions answered by the ones who are desperate to have this in their schools, it might ease my mind. How do you want this implemented in your school and what is it that you would like your kids to take away from it?

This is legal oriented, but it's a good summary from a quick google search.

Tenets of CRT

I could find a better one with more time.

This would be woven into the curriculum in schools.

For a quick example, an application of critical race theory would reexamine having a "black history elective" and instead make sure that history was in the mainstream curriculum.

What you heard about white children getting blamed for Asian hate crimes is patently false and totally absurd. I highly recommend you reconsider your news sources if this type of things is something you hear often.

Thank you, I wouldn’t mind it being put in the curriculum like the example you gave. That’s fine with me. I’ve been waiting to hear something like that but I’ve gotten crickets, except from those who are against it and giving these crazy explanations of how it will be implemented.

Critical Race Theory in School

Our school district put together a plan for CRT. They wanted to spend millions of dollars on hiring a Diversity Administrator, and Equity Audits. They put teachers through training last summer where they were taught that they are racists because they are white. We had our school board election this weekend and the candidates who ran against CRT won with 70% of the record turnout vote. Pay attention to what your school boards are doing. CRT isn’t just teaching kids to be nice to people of all races. There is a big emphasis on “equity”, which results in eliminating Honors courses (see the state of Virginia). The plan also called for keeping a record of “micro aggressions”, which are any perceived slights against POC by white people, whether intentional or not.

That is absolutely NOT what I want my tax money going towards. That is some of the stuff I was reading online that scared me but didn’t think it was actually real because it seemed so crazy.

The plan also called for keeping a record of “micro aggressions”, which are any perceived slights against POC by whites people, whether intentional or not.

If you see the word “equity” anywhere you should be on alert.

Our school district put together a plan for CRT. They wanted to spend millions of dollars on hiring a Diversity Administrator, and Equity Audits. They put teachers through training last summer where they were taught that they are racists because they are white. Now that it’s on my radar....Virginia has began to imply CRT and at the same time eliminate advanced classes, eliminate entrance exams for top schools. No more pledge of allegiance. Interesting.

People don’t understand what CRT actually is. Its goal is EQUITY not EQUALITY. CRT aims to bring everything down to the lowest common denominator and presumes POC can’t actually compete with white people because of institutional racism-that, in itself is a racist and preposterous argument. Soon our children will be sitting with drool buckets beside them in class out of fear of offending any one group.

I read into it more. Seems like one of the schools that is eliminating the entrance exam is 70% Asian and this is actually benefiting white students. Curious to see if it still ok.

It is interesting to see it such a hot topic with school board elections. It’s the question everyone is asking the candidates and some refuse to answer.
