Cruise to Alaska
So my hubby promised to take me on an Alaskan Cruise for my 30th b-day - which is almost 3 years away.
The thing is in three years we will either start ttcing or maybe have an infant.
So my question is this - if you have been on a cruise to Alaska do you think it is okay to bring an infant or be preggo? Alaska is my dream vacation and I want to go all out for it and don't want to miss anything.
TIA

Never been to Alaska but I know cruise ships have cut offs for pregnant women and infants. You might want to check out the cruise ship's website first. Good Luck!!!

Re: Cruise to Alaska
i think you can only be up to 7months when you go on a ship, but i'm not 100% sure. there are definite cutoffs. IMO an alaskan cruise is a long trip- between the flights etc and i can't see bringing an infant. i think a lot of the experience would be lost. i say maybe have him bring you for your 29th bday and maybe conceive a baby in alaska or if you are very perggers or have an infant, take a rain check and wait a few years until maybe you can leave your little one with a family member.

Re: Cruise to Alaska
I wouldn't bring an infant (if it was allowed.) The weather is very cold, and usually rainy.. I don't think I'd want to subject a baby to that.

Re: Cruise to Alaska
Thank you all for your responses. I think we are going to do the cruise first. Hopefully an early 30th b-day gift. I guess it wouldn't be smart to have an infant or be preggo there. Sometimes I just need to hear that from other people. TY!

Re: Cruise to Alaska
Dianne - our friends just got back from an Alaskan cruise this summer. They took their 16 month old daughter. However, due the activities our friends wanted to do sans baby, it turned into a famlily vacation, so mom and dad, aunt, uncles, siblings, etc came and people took turns watching the baby, so the extra little trips could be made - like glacier walking.

Re: Cruise to Alaska
I just got back on Sunday from 2 weeks in Alaska including a 7 day cruise. It was amazing. People had little children but probably the youngest was around a year. I also think you can't go on a cruise after your 24th week of pregnancy. I read that on RC's website.
The temperature was cool high 50s and low 60s and sunny most days but rainy a few as well. My concern would be bring an infant out in the rain. I also think some excursions would be difficult with a little child.
Let me know if you have any other questions.

Re: Cruise to Alaska
We did an Alaskan cruise about 2 years ago. It's definitely not the type of cruise you want to do with an infant. On Caribbean cruises, you can hang out on the beach all day. But in Alaska, all of the excursions are active-type things that would be really difficult to do with a baby.

Re: Cruise to Alaska
A friend of mine just went on an Alaska Cruise in June. She was 6 months pregnant. Her sister had a 6 month old baby with her. They had a great time. I'm not sure of the kinds of activities they did though.

My husband and I are definately not the active type excursion people! We did an Alaskan Cruise two years ago, and did excursions in each port.. only one I would say would not be appropriate to bring an infant.
I was actually surprised at how many young children (I'd say between 6 months and up) there were on the cruise. Friends of ours just took their two kids on a 10 day Alaskan cruise, ages 5 & 3 and had a blast.
So I say it's definately doable.
