Crying at bedtime non stop (teething related)
DD has been crying/screaming at bedtime for the last week. She used to go to sleep after light rocking and now she refuses to go to bed.
She screams and cries non-stop. She is definitely teething and not much soothes her. I have given her Tylenol but I don't want to give it to her every night ( bad, right?)
What can I do? Even holding her doesn't soothe her totally.
I feel helpless
(ETA She is nearly 5 months)

Re: Crying at bedtime non stop (teething related)
She could just be becoming more aware of her surroundings and testing you. That is right around the time when we had to CIO.
There will be good sleep phases, and not soo good ones. Hope it passes soon.
ETA: When my DD (now 14 months) was 5 months old she started to cry when we put her down to sleep. When we would come back into her room she was laugh. After reading both Weissbluth's and Ferber's methods cover to cover, and discussing them with our pediatrician, we did a modified CIO. I find it interesting that people are so quick to dismiss this as a possible reason for the crying, in addition to teething.
That being said, many pediatricians do not recommend motrin for teething, only tylenol (especially prior to 6 months).

Shes only 5 month!!!! In my opinion she is NOT testing you or manipulating you in any way!! Do you swaddle? hum/sing to her? Bottle or nurse? you could try laying down with her. back rubs or pats?? Its soooo hard when they cry at night... can your dh help you out? maybe you can have him try calming her also. Maybe she is having trouble settling down.

Shes only 5 month!!!! In my opinion she is NOT testing you or manipulating you in any way!! ITA!!! Especially if she is teething I would definitely not CIO (but I am NOT a fan of CIO to begin with).
Charlotte is teething right now - cut her first tooth a couple of days ago. I have been giving her the Highland's teething tablets and baby Orajel (nighttime version). I've been told Motrin works better for teething than Tylenol since it addresses swelling (and that is what is painful to a teether) but I haven't given her any...I don't think it's recommended for babies under 6 months so I would consult with your Dr first. Also, keeping her head elevated helps since lying flat causes all the blood to kind of just pool in her gum area which increases the swelling/throbbing.
During this time, as hard as it is on us, we do whatever it takes to make her comfortable - picking her up, rocking, nursing, etc - regardless of what time and how often during the night. My understanding is that cutting a tooth is incredibly painful so whatever I can do to help soothe her, I will do it.

Well - it took her 3 hours but she finally fell asleep...
I just cuddled her and gave her frozen washcloths.
I will try the tablets. It is so sad to see her in pain!
Thanks for the advice
