Crying in the middle of the night for HOURS...is this teething?
The last three nights DS (10 mths) has been waking up in the middle of the night and crying for hours. He usually was sleeping straight through the night and started this habit the last few days. His eyes are closed and he starts crying hard. Its almost like he is alsleep and dreaming. There is no consoling him unless we let him sleep with us. We NEVER did that before so I don't know what to do b/c I don't want this to become a habit. Do you think he is teething - he has been chewing he fingers a bit more. He has no teeth yet. I have gotten a total of 3 hrs of sleep each night and xhausted - don't know what to do. Any moms go through this?

Could definiately be teething or possibly an ear infection. The pain is usually worse at night when they are laying down. Does he seem to have a cold or is he coughing?

Could def be teething-I am pretty sure DS is cutting his molars (constant finger sucking/chewing, tons of drool) and lately we hear him cry for a few minutes a few times each night which he has never done. He falls back asleep thouigh.

Re: Crying in the middle of the night for HOURS...is this teething?
I could have typed this word for word. My DS always was am amazing sleeper. I would put him down at 8:30 and he would sleep until 7 - he never slept with us in our bed. However, the last week he has been waking up and crying hysterically, just like you said - eyes closed, almost sleeping, but inconsolable. he is 10 1/2 months old. He went to the doctor last week and his ears and lungs were clear. The doctor said it cold be teething and congestion (he has a cold). The last 3 nights I had to take him bed with me to calm him down and then I would transfer him back to the crib. Last night I gave him Tylenol and I think that helped. It must be teething. I am not sure what to do!

I don't think its an ear infection. He has had 2 the last few weeks and he usually pulls his ear. No sign of that this time. He has had a bit of a cold but we have been using baby vicks, humidifier and elevating his bed.

Thanks! I just spoke to his daycare teacher (she is great - VERY experienced mom) and she ssaid he is cutting his teeth. She suggested the tylenol also. She also said to try teething tablets (she said she will write them down for me today). I am EXHAUSTED and really dreading the holidays. With back to back holiday parties I am afraid the next few days will be a nightmare......I'm goign to try teh tylenol tonight and see how it goes.
