Cuomo says he wants schools to reopen in September, and that is currently the plan
In an interview on Sunday, he told "Meet the Press" that he acknowledges children need to be back in school, not just for academics, but because they are missing their teachers and friends, and missing out on crucial socialization. He said the reason he has not officially pulled the trigger is because a lot can happen in two months. He wants to see if the infection rate remains low, and what we know about the inflammatory syndrome- although that kind of fell of the radar in late May. One thing he did say, was that he is watching to see if the surge in other states will cause a spike here. He said if that happens, "kids will be home for a long time." So, please, can we close NY's borders?

It’s all going to come down to money. It’s going to cost a lot of money to open schools following the CDC guidelines. Most districts are strapped for cash as it is. There’s no money to hire additional staff to support smaller class sizes. Lack of space is going to be a big issue too.
I personally want schools to open. I want to be back in person with my students. I hope someone can make it happen.

CT and MA plans to reopen normally as well as other countries.
We need to just open as people will get sick and more people (and kids included) get the flu then they got Covid.

They’re predicting numbers to significantly increase during the cold months (although there’s no studies that prove that). Hopefully as time gets closer, he won’t use this as an excuse to keep schools closed.

Schools should re-open and I think based on NY's numbers right now (assuming no major spikes July/Augusst), they likely will. However I think they will end up closed again by Oct/Nov as #s will rise.

Re: Cuomo says he wants schools to reopen in September, and that is currently the plan
There have been spikes nationwide. Nearly 50% of those testing positive are under the age of 35, and spikes have been seen in the past few weeks (in line with the time of the protests). Also, there are fewer hospitalizations/low fatalities occurring from these spikes.
NY has had over 30,000 deaths, mostly from elderly, nursing home patients from the botched efforts to return positive patients to NY nursing homes.
Huge spike in 20-29 year olds, right around June 15th, right after protests. However, we are not asking people if they have attended protests, not really sure why not. Why is it so taboo to mention it?
Basically, hospitals are not being overwhelmed (purpose of staying in place), fewer people need ventiliation. Hopefully, we have gotten the message to protect our elders from this point forward. Hopefully our kids can go back to school. I'm cautiously optimistic our situation is improving.
I hope they go back with some modifications, but none of this blended nonsense.

I’m soooo curious to see if this just disappears after the election. Just like swine flu ran it’s course in the media, Ebola, etc... sadly I’m hoping this is just political and not a “new normal” bc I can’t live like this any longer

Arizona's hospitals are on the verge of collapse. So are the hospitals in Houston. I can't imagine that isn't real. I watched Cuomo's briefing. He is delaying indoor dining in NYC partly because he is afraid people from Florida, Texas, Arizona, etc will fly into our airports sick, go eat in our restaurants, and infect a bunch of New Yorkers. I am hoping he is keeping more stuff closed through the summer in a desperate attempt to keep us in a good place, so that he can send kids back to school, and reopen indoor dining come October when it becomes too cold to sit outside. Starting the fifth month of this and I am ready to snap. Other states need to get their shit together. Because it was one thing to live like this to protect fellow New Yorkers. Now we are doing it to hopefully deter outsiders from coming in? Insanity.

Are you being serious?
Well you are lucky none of your family members have had this. Have you heard of Nick Cordero? Do you pick up a newspaper and read it? 10,000 new cases PER day in Florida. They had to reclose all the beaches and restaurants. Because people like you aren't taking this seriously. It's not political. It's a GLOBAL pandemic. It's not going to "disappear" until people wear masks or stay home.

i get what she is saying. And yes i have known peopel with COVID my own parents had it my dad had it really bad but didnt go to the hospital.
Is it real of course it is. Is it serious for some yes! But that doesn't change the fact that other disease have come and gone with less media attention and one can question if things will all of a sudden be more calm once elections are done.
I will also jump on the band wagon of I am sick of hearing everyone needs to stay home and wear masks. Exactly when are we expected to be allowed to go out if this is not going away? Never? do some people really thing we should sit in and do nothing forever? Or is the answer once the vaccine comes out? If its the vaccine i hope it comes out in the next few months so we can all go back out with out hear people saying we shouldn't.

You can't be positive, realistic or question anything about COVID without being a conspiracy theorists, dumb or heartless on here.
I also want to add that FL is not totally shutdown. Beaches are shutdown in Miami for the 4th. In orlando, Tampa and Miami - limited inside dining is still happening. they shut down streets to include more outside dining. People are wearing masks. I feel like up here we are reporting the news inaccurately.
Its crazy how we are acting like other States aren't our fellow Americans. Like many from the metro area didn't drive down in droves to the south when sh!t was really bad and they were probably carriers. And now we are talking about these other states like they are China. Its sounds insane to me.
Also the quarantine is strongly recommended and not mandated. Because at the end of the day this is the USA and its unconstitutional to enforce. I hope we don't forget that.
I also know people who passed, families who are economic ruin, my family has been exposed like I mentioned before, close family members who were sick with it for over two months, ER nurses who told me it was like working in Afghanistan.
So please don't insinuate because people like us question things, it doesn't mean we don't know What The Fuk happened and is happening right now.
ETA: as I type this my DH is talking to his best friend who's dad passed away from "Covid". He actually isnt 100% sure if that was the cause because he cant go to FL and they aren't being clear on the absolute cause.

I have family leaving for FL and I think they are nuts. We already told them we will not see them for a while lol bye
The problem is that people "think" they are taking precautions when they are really not. It's clear to see the people gathering, eating out, not wearing masks, etc and then claim they are taking precautions. No you're not. Stop lying lol

All of this!!! Don’t forget “selfish” for worrying and wanting to take care of our own health! It really amazes me how much faith some of us have in masks! Seriously! More than taking care of ur own health, more than hygiene practices. It blows my mind!

Not saying that the numbers in Florida are insignificant but, there were nearly 10,000 on one day - the day of the article... It's not 10,000 new cases per day.

"You say tomato, I say tomato..."
From the NY Times: "On Saturday, for the second straight day, Florida crushed its previous record for new coronavirus cases, reporting 9,585 infections. Another 8,530 were reported on Sunday."
So it might not be 10,000 cases exactly, but 9,585 is close enough. It's called rounding up. It's real. It's contagious and people are confirmed having it. So how can it be a political stunt? If 8k had it yesterday and 8k have it today and 8k have it tomorrow... eventually the hospitals can't keep up.

How is it a FACT that protests didn’t spread the virus, when contact tracers are not allowed to ask people who test positive if they attended a protest?
I find it hard to believe that a spike in Houston has nothing to do with protests, and George Floyd’s funeral.
And everyone needs to calm down and stop believing everything you hear on the news. I live in North Texas. I don’t know anyone who has had the virus. I don’t know anyone who knows anyone who has had the virus. I know three ER doctors at three different hospitals who say they are seeing more patients, but admitting very few.
So don’t send me a link to an article that says I’m wrong. I’m telling you what I see and hear for myself.
Covid 19 is not a death sentence. We need to learn to live with it. Protect the vulnerable and live our lives.

Its the deaths you want to worry about not the numbers of cases. Its been said that at least 50% of the US will get Covid eventually. So unless people are dropping like flies than having it and recovering is different than being in the hospital intubated.
