Posted by Jennp This. And if it is political, it's because of many Republicans and their "but my freedom!!!" attitude which is going to drag this thing out and out because they won't put on a goddamn mask.
And before someone jumps down my throat, I'm not talking about all Republicans. I'm sure some wear masks. But frankly, every single progressive person I know is very careful to protect others and is following the rules even if they are just running in the store for 5 minutes.
Quite possibly one of the most ridiculous thing I have read on here! If you don’t want someone jumping down your throat read what you post. You are implying that only “some” (as one not many) Republicans wear masks? Every republican I know wears a mask and many did so prior to it being mandated. Pretty sure the vast majority of people are wearing masks now. My mother who is the most republican person I know wears a mask and has since early March. You should rewind time and watch the early protests with all of your “progressive socially responsible” friends out there half of them with no masks on right on top of each other while the virus was barely under control in NY. I swear sometimes I think I live on a different planet than some of you guys with your bible toting KKK republican friends and family members. Every republican I know is typically pretty socially liberal and fiscally conservative and is more than happy to protect themselves and others by wearing a mask.
This 100%
Agree. I know many many republicans. Some very right wing, conservative. My boss, my father, my neighbor and they are all cautious and wear masks religiously. Probably more cautious than I am. What a sweeping generalization. And how ignorant. I cannot imagine making a sweeping generalization like that about a political party, or a race, or a religious group and it being ok. Talk about stereotyping. And I also have never gone anywhere on Long Island and not seen everyone in their masks. From supermarkets to restaurants. I have been in restaurants multiple times a week since they opened- in all areas of Long Island and everyone has worn a mask to their table, to the bathroom and when they were leaving. Same at the beach. Same with every store I have been in since March. Not sure where all these Republican mask scofflaws are. I certainly haven't seen any.
I said not all. But people read what they want to read.
Your anecdotes mean nothing. I couldn't care less.
There are numbers that back up what I'm saying.
Look at the red states vs. blue states and the numbers of increasing cases.
The data says it all.
JennP you’re funny! Reread what u wrote. No one is reading what they want to read. They are reading what you want them to read. Please show me those numbers. Your precious NY is still worse by far than any other state.

Ohhhhh ye of the fake "libertarian socially liberally fiscally conservative" nonsense. You cannot be socially liberal when your financial conversatism prohibits liberalism. Like do you even know what that is? This country doesn't have a liberal or progressive movement despite what people think they like to call themselves. We have neoliberals and centrist democrats, but someone like myself is a leftist.
FOR EXAMPLE If you are someone who thinks they are "not racist" but you vote republican and you vote for republican politicians and financial legislation that continue to oppress, silence, and further race-based financial inequities that have brought us to today then I have news for you....you ARE in fact racist by continuing to uphold the system of white supremacy. See how easy that is to understand?

Great post.
Fiscally conservative and socially liberal means "these are nice ideas, but I'm not willing to do any work or stick my hand in my pocket to support them."
In that case, your "socially liberal" plus 2.75 will get you on the subway.
It's meaningless.
This is interesting because do you have any idea what I have done personally or financially support gay rights, disabled person rights, minority rights, women’s rights? I’m willing to bet it’s more than you have on a financial level as well as volunteering Of my personal time. But I digress... open your idiotic narrow minded eyes.

There was no need to bring politics into this post. This is the problem with America. Nothing can be discussed without people starting to hurl insults or claim they know what other people stand for. I am fiscally conservative and socially liberal. I wear my mask and stick my hand in pocket plenty so stay in your lane and keep your comments to yourself.
I’ll comment when and where I please, ride in whatever lane I want, and give zero shiits about what you think as I’m doing it..
Yes which is pretty much what makes u an idiotic moron.

So, regarding your other post, you contradict yourself - do you want me to show you the numbers, or do you not care what I have to say?
Actually, don't bother answering, because I don't give a shit which one it is.

The "i know you are but what am i" strategy doesn't work. sure, you could absolutely do all that and more, but you're still definitely upholding white supremacy no matter what your feel good donation or volunteering says. And that's not my interpretation of the situation, to echo JennP (youre amazing btw), that's fact. The entirety of what is republican or conservative politics is the legislation and political theory that has entrenched/supported/upheld racism and white supremacy within the USA, but I won't bother posting the links. it doesn't matter if you're Republicist Lite and voted for Obama or KKKaren, just because you don't like it doesnt make it less fact.

I used to just ignore you, but your comment in the “concerned” thread was really awful. This thread just solidifies the fact that you are not a caring person.

The same people downplaying the pandemic are the same people who have been shaming and personally attacking all those who haven't downplayed it and who provoked no one. The same people who railed against metrics set by experts for not being met instead of against people for acting selfishly and making us the only country that is where we are.
The cruelty and bullying has been noticed by lots for months. The shaming, the infantile name calling, the misplaced rage, the defensiveness, the inability to discuss or debate without engaging in personal attacks or having any self awareness. It's like a train wreck.
This board is fascinating. Grateful to see that many are sane and civil, and that so many who disagree were able to exchange ideas civilly. That can always be educational. But...wow. Eye opening.
Btw, Florida has reached around 10000 new cases per day. It's been all over the news. The news keeps reporting that this is a house on fire, that the experts are scared, that we are turning a bad corner, and that it didn't have to be this way.

Actually they only hit 10,000 yesterday and the numbers were in the 5 and 6,000’s so that is false. That is what makes people get crazy as most don’t do their own research. I look everyday as it takes 2 seconds. Google FL corona and there is a chart as you can do this with every state. They show the positive results and deaths per day.

So now in the news, Cuomo announced the VMA's will be Aug. 30th at the Barclays with little or no audience??
Hmmm....seems to have his own agenda. Who cares about the music awards, and start getting our kids back to school!

Yep he said that the beginning of the week. Nice what he picks and chooses to open.

A solid week ago, around June 26-27, FL was at 9000-9500 new cases per day. Yesterday topped 10000.
And the command "do your own research," especially when you're sending people to google (which, here, granted, is the best we can do, although it's been alleged that FL is cooking their numbers), is super cringeworthy, probably because it's been coopted by science deniers when they want to get snarky with people who doubt that their Google skills will equate to others' medical degrees.

If I could attach the chart here I would but have had problems in the past. That is why I say google. I gave the numbers above in this thread also.

I don't know where you get your numbers Valentine but as someone who lives in FL I can attest that our numbers have been very close to 10,000 (9580 ish) for at least 2 days with several days in the 8000 range and 6500 on a "good day." And a big part of the problem here is that reopening was rushed and that politics has come before public safety and counties (including my own) are voting down mask requirements. People are walking around with no masks, crowding restaurants and bars and here we are with cases increasing dramatically and covid hospital admissions increasing. In my zip code cases have DOUBLED in 2 weeks after us not having one single new reported case in over a month!

I might be a moron
Excellent! We agree on something.
So, regarding your other post, you contradict yourself - do you want me to show you the numbers, or do you not care what I have to say?
Actually, don't bother answering, because I don't give a shit which one it is.
Have a great night!
Please please please go away. No one wants you here jenn! No one cared when you left and we cared even less when you came back. Buh bye!
Nice, real nice. No one wants you here? What is this 7th grade again? Where is your posse to back you up?
I used to just ignore you, but your comment in the “concerned” thread was really awful. This thread just solidifies the fact that you are not a caring person.

So since new cases in FL have now been over 9k the last two days is it okay for us to be concerned?

Re: Cuomo says he wants schools to reopen in September, and that is currently the plan
I’m so confused as to what’s happening here. Not to dredge up the old beef but in the beginning poster Lululu practically reamed me a new a-hole for telling someone it’s ok to take their kid to the park. Was mad at me for wanting to workout. So when did she become the callous person who doesn’t care about virus. Im not one to defend her, but I think people are taking her post on the “concerned” thread out of context. I took it as a matter of factly, trying to calm the OP down, like many of us were trying to do.

Her choice of wording was the issue.

Not sugar coating it, a bit harsh...maybe but nothing compared to the choice of words some ppl in this forum tend to use towards others.
