Curious: The Flu
It seems like EVERYONE is getting it this year! I wanted to throw out a quick poll.

Curious: The Flu
So far, DH got the shot & got the flu, and neither I nor DC got the shot, and thus far we are flu free. DC is however sick at the moment, but the rapid flu test came back negative yesterday.

Curious: The Flu
Here's my theory on "everyone has the flu this year"
(I think I posted this over on parenting, too)
Some people legit had the flu, but....
I think some people are not going to doctor and self-diagnosing and saying they have the flu. Can't tell you how many people had a simple cold and said, "Oh man..hope I don't have the flu!" Add all of the above to flu-related Facebook statuses and you have a recipe for everyone claiming to have the flu.
I think only 1 person had the flu out of all my coworkers, friends, and family.
I think of the Swine Flu. "Everyone" seemed to have the swine flu, too.
All the media-created panic doesn't help, either. 
I didn't get the shot and didn't get the flu.

My DH just got over the flu and ended up getting pneumonia as a result. He was pretty bad and was legitimately diagnosed. Out of our family of 4 he was the only one who did not get the vaccine. The kids nd I all got the shot. We all had one sniffles, DD had a low fever and that was it. My DH on the other hand was seriously ill - never seen him this bad.

I have been getting the flu shot the past couple of years. I had the flu once and if I can completely avoid it by getting the flu shot, then I will get the flu shot.

DH and I didn't get the Flu shot and we did not get the flu, or any sickness for that matter (knock on wood!).
My mom had the flu and I think she had gotten the flu shot before getting sick.

So far so good. Neither of us got the flu shot & we haven't been sick. I have been very mindful of washing my hands, not touching my face, etc.

I would want to choose other. DH and i only got the shot a couple of weeks ago but up until that time, neither of us had the flu and we still (knock on wood, I really hope I'm not jinxing myself) have not gotten it. DS got the shot and he also has not gotten it. Though all three of us have a little cold now.
I am almost 100% sure my boss had the flu over Chrstmas and sounds like his son as well. Not sure if they had the shot. Another woman I work with, pretty sure just had it but she did get the shot. She was sick, but able to work -really appreciated her comiing in for a week with "the flu" 
I'm not sure if anyone else I know had it. Really awful colds for some but don't think it was the flu.
Edited b/c typing on the iPad is horrible!!

I agree with this. I legit had the flu, diagnosed by my Dr., for the first time in my life ( no flu shot) The same day I first called out from work, my boss said she had the flu too. She was able to go into work everyday. It took all my strength to get from my bed to my couch, and my place is very small! She did NOT go to the Dr. I belive she had a bad cold. Everyone who has legit jad the flu this year has been in bad of shape, if not worse than me. I even said to her, how are you in work, I can't lift my head off the pillow A bunch of people have had it at work, but they were all in rough shape and definitely not going to work, especially the first couple of days!

It garners more sympathy and comments on FB

I voted no shot and got the flu, but it should maybe be other. I went to the doctors and had a rapid flu test done that came back negative, but the doc insisted that they are only 50% accurate and just from my severe systems I had the flu. I've never been that sick before and if it wasn't really the flu, I don't ever want to get it

I'm wondering the same for me. I was diagnosed with sinusitis, but I've never had sinusitis so bad that I couldn't move a blanket on my body and couldn't get out of bed for 2 days.
If I really didn't have the flu, I feel bad for people that do.

For me, No flu shot, NO flu.
My DS didn't get the shot and had flu like symptoms, without testing positive for the flu. But doesn't mean he didn't have it, since the test can't detect all strains.

while i didnt have the flu i did get a very bad virus that caused me to get pnemonia, which was horrible.
I got my flu shot yesterday I would like to reduce my chances of getting the flu especially since im still recovering from the pnemonia.
i think its not just the flu that is bad this year--its everything.
